$178K Drug Charge: Defendant Given $25K Bail

January 4, 2013

Barbadian national Dave McDonald Trotman, 39, re-appeared in Magistrates Court this morning [Jan 4]. Mr Trotman has been charged with importing $178,000 worth of cocaine and possession of an illegal drug with intent to supply.

This morning’s hearing before Senior Magistrate Archie Warner saw lawyer Aldwyn Savoury make an application for Mr Trotman to be released from custody on the grant of bail. After hearing Mr Savoury’s application and Crown Prosecutor Nicole Smith’s objections, Magistrate Warner granted bail.

Saying that the law required that Bermudians and non-Bermudians must be accorded the same treatment, the Magistrate set bail at $25,000. In addition, the Magistrate required a surety in a similar amount; ordered Mr Trotman to surrender all his travel documents; told him that he must report daily to Somerset Police Station between 6:00am and 6:00pm; and that he must provide a fixed address which must not be changed without the Court’s permission.

Mr Trotman must appear again on 18th January 2013 for mention.Mr Trotman has not been required to enter a plea as the charge is indictable and can only be tried in Supreme Court.

I think that there needs to be a more coordinated effort taking place with from what i see.
Here a crumbled up tea biscuit , say for example , has fire trucks, police vehicles ,ambulances and security personnel alll mobilized… yet a guy with his picture plastered on the front page of the newspaper , in regards to a Murder investigation , is in the UK ? I think this looks like theatrics and a very poor job of it. Someone needs to sort out who is who out there at the aeroport…and soon.

Maybe consider commenting on the appropriate thread too as none of what you mention has anything to do with a guy being bailed on drug importation charges.
Other than these minor points, good job. Thanks for sharing.

Bermudican…….do some homework before commenting…….A suspect is in the UK. A suspect (picture in paper) has been arrested and has been remanded at Westgate. Figure out what I want to tell you next.

  5. William Sidis says:

With all due respect to this client’s true lawyer, another guy named Savoury – the late great Aldwyn Savoury would never have fought for such a scum bag!

Bernews – please correct this if I am right. If I am wrong, I stand corrected.
