Man Jailed For Slapping, Spitting On Ex-Girlfriend
In Magistrates Court yesterday [Jan 14], Anthony Young, 26, pleaded guilty to assaulting his ex-girlfriend and was sentenced to three month in prison.
Crown Prosecutor Carrington Mahoney told Senior Magistrate Archie Warner that the woman had formed a new relationship with another man and that on 10th January 2013, Young had come upon her as she was walking in Warwick with her new boyfriend. She was pregnant at the time.
Mr Mahoney told the Magistrate that Young had said to her: “Get out of my neighbourhood”. He slapped her, spat on her and told her “ever time I see you, I’ll do the same thing.” Police were informed, and Young was picked up and admitted slapping his ex-girlfriend, who had been treated at KEMH for severe facial bruising.
The Senior Magistrate said that this was a “brazen, bullying attack on a female; and a threat to continue in the same vein” and said this “behavior must be discouraged.” The Magistrate noted that Young had a previous conviction for possessing a bladed article, and sentenced him to three months in prison.

This is yet another case of Archie Warner’s inconsistent & irrational sentencing practices. This judge needs to retire because he has caused much harm by doing a poor job. There have been so many violent criminals that he has sentenced to a bare minimum sentence that have been released & repeated their violent behavior its hard to keep track. What does the magistrate think this violent freak intended to do with the bladed article that was found on him peel potatoes? Obviously he has some sort of obsessive compulsive psychological issue which can happen to all different type of people but mix in violent nature with this psychosis & you have someone who is a danger to the community.
This fruit loop should have been charge for the assault of both the female & her unborn child as its most likely the stress of being hit that hard could have affect the baby as well.

I agree. It’s is sad that the men on the bench, show how little regard they have for the grandmothers, mothers, sisters and aunts of this country. They too need to be sentenced too..to dismissal from the bench! It’s a new year and a new government. The government in power need to get onto these spineless sentences against women.

There are way to many repeat criminal offenders showing up in the courts and nothing is being done to reprimand their actions in a way in which will deter them from returning to a life of criminal activity. If Bermuda does not get tough on their sentences the thugs will continue to own the streets and the law abiding citizens will be jailed in their own homes. Fix it or live the rest of your lives in fear.

I’m pleased to see a custodial sentence was given but not long enough. I’m sure many of these guys would do 3 months easily to hang with their counterparts on the people’s purse to say they slapped up an ex-ho of theirs.
Where was the new man in all this? He let his baby-mama-to-be get spit and slapped up in his presence. Sounds like a lateral move in her life of partner choices.
What is this woman’s part in this? Unfortunately no age or info on this to really comment but I have to say LADIES – raise your standards or get some. I don’t condone violence on women but don’t provoke and procreate with these losers. Having babies with drama is not a good choice. And YES – procreation is a choice if you are not taking proper precautions.

I agree the judge needs to step the hell down. this is totally out of character, lucky the young lady isnt related to me because I would of been the one locked up to much of this s#it going on. he should of got three dam years with his record, bet your boots she has a relative up west gate & trust me he will get beaten but he wont tell nobody what happen to his monkey ass up there, his a punk ass I wonder what his parents had to say about that. Stop the inconsistencies ! This Magistrate has a history of giving man a lighter sentence when they assault women. Archie Warner should be ashamed of himself and needs to step down. He obviously has grown up in a cultural environment that finds it OK with assaulting and threatening women.
