There are serious issues with health and safety in the work force in Bermuda! People do what they want without any regulations in place. And if there are regulations no one is enforcing them. Take it from someone who knows. Of course, not every accident can be avoided but in most cases they could have been with the right procedures put in place. Bermuda is too easy going when it comes to worker safety. Another sad day!

    • Lets Hope says:

You are so right about people doing what they like! And now someone has lost their live…There should be no work being carried out at Morgans Point to begin with.

      • Justine says:

How do you know that they were doing what they liked and no permits were issued? If you don’t know the facts maybe you should wait for the results of the investigation.

      • Captain Sensible says:

        RIP.

Lets Hope – I don’t understand why no work should be carried out at Morgans Point. They are doing work cleaning it up ahead of the proposed hotel complex.

      • Blu_topaz says:

FYI work has been going on by govt for sometime now. They hv sub contracted it out
They hv been removing aspestos from many of the buildings. This is very sad but let’s get the facts first before we start throwing out negative comments.

    • Plato says:

This happens every day in every country stop hating on Bermuda.

    • US Observer in Pink Sand says:

Do you really know what the cause of the accident was? Even with regulations (laws) in place and guidlines to assist, people still continue to do what they want. Your statement is an ignorant one. Just like there are laws to keep people under control, people still break the law which leads to fines, jail/prison and even death. You are right..not every accident can be avoided however you failed to state that in most cases its human error or stupidy or just not knowing any better. Every workplace accident is different however it always leads back to what did the human do to prevent the accident from happening in the first place. Wait until the investigation is done.

      • Come On Man!! says:

  33. Bob the Builder says:

    Construction work is dangerous!!!
Accidents are a pert of the job!!
    Workers do get hurt !

Unfortunately most people do believe the above and take it as the rule rather than the exeption.
It is time for stricter regulations in workplace safety, there is much talk about OHSA this and that , workmans comp, liability insurance BUT till we get some sort of enforcement with a penalty/ liability structure little will change.

Whilst there might be some rules and regulations in place it reminds me of our roads where everything goes as long as you don’t get caught. We have people riding on the back of open trucks- including W&E staff, picture on of them overturning with a bunch of fatality s ( remember the trash truck at Barnes corner not to long ago)
Crazy stuff on ladders, scaffolding’s made out of 2×4′s, commercial trucks with bald tires…..
Insterrestin enough one never hears the unions talking about this!

Well after today lets hope there will be some changes.

My condolences to the family, friends and coworkers.

  34. Pilot001 says:

RIP Chris my thoughts and prayers are with your family at this time!

  35. Carlita says:

My condolences to the family. Those that are responsible for the Morgan’s Point facility need to consider demolishing all the properties. Life is worth more then fixing up derelict buildings.

I don’t know the dynamics of this tragedy but ……..

    • Justine says:

Carlita, the buildings can’t be demolished they are full of asbestos – the asbestos was being removed.

      Please think before you post!

      • Blu_topaz says:

He wasn’t in the building. It was a freak accident
