March 13, 2013

The Bermuda Department of Tourism today [Mar 13] announced the winner of their Quarterly Video competition as Fat Tire Massive, with the winning video displaying views of Bermuda’s parks from the perspective of mountain bike riders.

The video footage showcases the Island’s biking and walking trails against the backdrop of lush green open spaces. The parks featured in the video are Ferry Reach, Admiralty House, Heydon Trust Estate, Hog Bay Park, Scaur Hill Fort and Park and the Arboretum.

Minister of Tourism Development and Transport Shawn Crockwell complemented the winners and said: “Fat Tire Massive have created a video which shows a unique, fun and innovative look at the parks in Bermuda that many people would not see unless they visit.”

He added: “The video captures the best of Bermuda’s open spaces and parks. This video is a great incentive for visitors to enjoy not only our famous beaches but also our beautiful parks.”

According to the group’s leaders, Hans Hirschi and James Holloway, “Fat Tire Massive is a group of people who enjoy mountain bike riding. We ride for the fun of the sport. Many of the riders have lived in Bermuda all their life but have never before seen some of these parks.

“We appreciate the opportunity to share the beauty of the island and promote mountain biking in Bermuda. Our mission is to use the available trails and work to maintain the beauty the trails.”

Fat Tire Massive has been working with WEDCO and the Department of Parks to open Lagoon Park for riders. Fat Tire Massive is the main organizer for the Mountain Bike Championship, which consists of eight championship races and four fun races, held annually between January through March.

    • SoMuchMore says:

too funny but who ever took this pic failed on location. LOL

  5. stein says:

great video! well done guys, unique and well made. a deserved win

  6. Huh says:

Can we be honest? That was not good. Average and boring. Like zzzzzzzzz

  7. BombsAway says:

Awesome video. A refreshing change from the pink sand, blue ocean and white roof theme we are so used to seeing.

  8. What is going on? says:

    Fantastic…. I loved it!

  9. CB2 says:

Wait.. That won and this didn’t?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jH3b9EXwvFU&feature=youtu.be

Next time could it be put to a public vote?!

    • Your joking says:

Actually the other video was way better…this was 90% moving clouds….not much of a night life….could have been almost anywhere in the world

    • Autumn Fire says:

CB2 & COG your video is much better….loved the scenes and music – really would make visitors want to see more. Great job!

    • TBH says:

it’s just shots of the sky. its a nice video but doesn’t make anyone wana come to bermuda.

Looks like the person who did this just learned how to do time lapse filming and went crazy with it.

      Soundtrack was bland and repetitive.
      very boring.

    • SoMuchMore says:

This one was too fake for me… Nothing personal, just my opinion!

    • theothersidebda says:

Kudos on your video. It is well done from an artistic standpoint. Though I agree with others that on the basis of attracting tourists, I think it falls short as time lapsed video of the night sky in many places would achieve the same effect.

  10. DND says:

Great video, and great showcase of the natural side of the island. Well done.

  11. whoa says:

oh wow this is nice where are these parks may i ask i know one was ferry reach then admirilty (Sp) house..

  12. COG says:

Not taking away from this video its great in its own rights but is OBVIOUSLY AND CLEARLY far less superior than this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jH3b9EXwvFU&feature=youtu.be ….so confused.

  13. IMHO says:

COG and CBT i really do like that video, some great time lapse footage on there and from a skill/edit point of view i would agree. BUT i would argue it doesnt show bermuda off as well as the biking video. the winning video makes a point about open spaces and demonstrates it really well throughout. The nightlife video was a great idea, but there was no shots of actual nightlife (plays, dancefloors, concerts, restaurants, night golf, beach bonfires all missed) other than cairo’s porch, football, gombeys and clouds, lots of clouds…

good point on voting, these should be uploaded to a central DOT youtube channel and voted on for the winner.

  14. Pastor Syl Hayward says:

IMHO: I have to agree with you. Nice video, COG and CBT, but if it was making a point about Bermuda’s night life in order to attract visitors looking for entertainment, it missed the mark. Or perhaps I should say, it sends a message that indicates the paucity of our night life…unless one is primarily interested in star-gazing.

  15. All Great Publicity for Bermy says:

I agree that it’s a good point to have voting open to the public as well.

This video also captured great shots of Bermuda:

    • LadyBDA says:

OMG I LOVE THIS ONE! Thanks for posting that other link. I will pass along to my college friends overseas. I think they would enjoy the brightness and vibrancy of this one. But congratulations to the winners though.

    • Nemo says:

Are you serious??? clear footage of legs what’s it got to do with Tourism??? Maybe (All Great)your video should have been entered in a different competition.

  16. Nemo says:

Great job finally to see another side of Bermuda other than Golf, Diving and people walking around in Bermuda shorts.

Props to you for opening eye’s that Bermuda really is so much more.!!!

    • Nemo says:

@ Thisbeatsit Very well done mate but its been done before many times all the videos are very cool, But this one I like because it hasn’t been done before. It’s a whole not take on what Bermuda can offer I think that’s why its a WINNER!!!

  17. WooHoo says:

the videos that did not make the cut look visually really good….but as has already been said missing any different content. This video has a completely different look and seems too have peeked a lot of peoples interest. So many places on our beautiful island that many of us have never seen. Glad it was picked…breath of fresh air!

  18. Make up your minds..... says:

    Great job FTM!!!

  19. me says:

Great video and the music is AWESOME!
