Traffic Detours Due To Embankment Collapse
There are traffic diversions in place in the Marsh Folly Road/Palmetto Road area in Pembroke due to an embankment collapse.
A police spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Police Service would like to advise the motoring public of the traffic diversion in the Marsh Folly Road, Palmetto Road Pembroke area.
“The Department of Works and Engineering has advised that the detour is necessary due to an embankment collapse on the southern side of Palmetto Road and Marsh Folly Road.
“Until this can be rectified, the Department of Works and Engineering have placed signs on Palmetto Road alerting motorists to divert on to Bishop Spencer Road. In addition, a section of Palmetto Road has been closed to all traffic until further notice.
“However, apparently not all road users are complying with the posted signs and barriers, causing unnecessary traffic congestion in the area as well as a potential safety hazard.
“The motoring public is therefore urged to adhere to all posted road signage in the area and where possible, take alternate routes until the situation has been corrected.”
What a mess! It would be helpfully if police officers are situated at both the Sea Mart junction on Northshore and also on Parsons Road as it is a nightmare trying to get to work! Where are the road traffic Officers when they are needed! I am puzzled!
I agree – a nightmare. It is only a matter of time that something will happen on Parsons Road if the Road Traffic Officers are not placed there. I am most certain, I will blogging I TOLD YOU SO!
Sorry. They knock off at 4pm.
hahahahahaha
I smell a $35,000,000 contract coming!
I smell a 4 year W&E project!
JUST A SUGGESTION!! In the morning the traffic can only flow inbound – into Hamilton until 9.30am, and in the evening it can be an out bound flow only till at least 7pm??
Since I live in the area and am terribly inconvienced just trying to get home from Paget to Marsh Folly. I don’t always want to travel through the city to get home all the time.
Ive call the station 5 times suggesting that inbound should have the right of way in the am and send outbound blackwatch or saltus. Still they chose to back up parsons, glebe and montpellier. There’s no quick fix to this one. Please let common sense prevail.
That seems like the best idea one way into town in the morning and one way out in the afternoon.
Looks to me the wall is still there, there was obviously som reinforcement work going on. BUT looking at the discoloration of the plywood, the timber and the general condition of the site the project has been at a standstill for a while.
Anybody knows what’s happening and who was doing the work?
Does Gilbert Lopes have a condo project around there? The Grand Palmetto?
family man, thanks for a good laugh lol
Jealous of Mr. Lopes?
Seriously!!!!!!!!!!!!! People need to grow up and be accountable for their own actions. If people disobey the road closure signs they are deliberately putting their safety and that of others at risk. Only when we each accept that we are responsible for our own actions and our actions bring consequences, will we see a positive change in our community. Stop being ignorant, taking cracks at the police. If we don’t need a police officer to tell us to eat, drink or sleep then we don’t need to wait for them to catch us before we do the right thing. Stop using them as an excuse for our bad behaviour. People live in that neighbourhood. Keep it safe for them and those who pass through there.
so why are cars continuing to ignore the ROAD AHEAD CLOSED sign and continuing to drive along the road?
Oh hang on…..I’m in Bermuda…of course they do.
This has been closed for about a week now with Frog lane closed off too. Traffic is a nightmare! Can we do the one way into town until 9am and then one way after 4 out of town? Or perhaps traffic lights?
Why are they advising now? I thought that bit of road had been closed for a while.
So it takes a week to finally put this advisory out???
Only goes to show how incompetent and laxed W&E (or whatever department it falls under) is when it comes to managing the roadways; I’m sure there’s been some tell tale signs there.
To me it looks like a job that was started and never finish and now a collapse.
I agree with Mark. It seems as if WE have beein working at that site forever. There are solutions though. One-way traffice into Hamilton in the morning and one-way traffic out of town in the evening.
