Photos/Video: Swedish Tall Ship Visits Bermuda

May 7, 2013

The Swedish tall ship TS Gunilla arrived in Bermuda yesterday [May 6], docking at Penno’s Wharf in St. George’s with 43 young students aboard. The students — aged 17-18 — gave us a mini-tour of the ship, and were more than happy to chat as it gave them a chance to practice their English.

17-year-old Swedish student Jakob Rene describes their voyage:

“We go out and do this to see the world,” said Jakob. “Instead of reading about it in a book. Getting out and meeting people, and shaping our picture of the world.”

The trip is scheduled to be around 40 days. They have already stopped in Miami and Charleston, and after they leave Bermuda they will be heading to the Azores and France, before heading back to Sweden.
