Bermuda Big Game Classic 2013 Final Results
The 2013 Bermuda Big Game Classic wrapped up earlier this month with more than $400,000 in cash and prizes being awarded, much of that going to the first place team, dubbed Callie Girl, in recognition of their fishing prowess, with Team Triple Play also making a splash with their landing of an 856-pound blue marlin.
The event began with a long boat parade, giving spectators along Hamilton Harbour the opportunity to take in each competing vessel, complete with flying national flags and plenty of waving.
In all, 47 blue marlin and 10 white marlin were caught during the four days of competitive fishing, with the event culminating in a gala awards ceremony this past Sunday, held at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess Harbourview Ballroom.
While the competition was stiff throughout the four days of the Classic, one team, collectively called Callie Girl, pulled away from the rest very early on, landing their first blue marlin shortly after the lines were cast.
The days progressed from there in much the same way, with Callie Girl winning the Daily Release Jackpot on every day of the competition, earning them the points that they needed to eventually take first place overall and cash and prizes in excess of $140,000.
While Team Callie Girl’s fishing skills were undeniable, it was another team, called Team Triple Play, that nabbed the largest catch of the competition, an 856-pound blue marlin that awed spectators for its sheer size.
Ironically, Team Triple Play’s vessel was the smallest in the field at 36 feet. That massive catch earned the team more than $160,000 as they went on to sweep the Daily and Overall Marlin Jackpots.
The other teams in attendance, including 2012’s winning Team Fa-La-Me, also did well, keeping the competition tight throughout the event. In the end, Fa-La-Me took second place, while Team Uno Mas was able to secure third position with a late rally on the final day of fishing.
