Bermuda Win Four Pan-Am Debates So Far
Today [July 26] is the third and final day of the preliminary debates of the Pan-American Debate Championships at City Hall, which involve 24 teams from Argentina, Bermuda, Canada, Chile, Mexico, Peru, and the USA competing in both English and Spanish debates.
The Bermuda teams have performed admirably so far, winning 4 debates over the past two days. Semi-finalists will be announced tonight at a reception hosted by the Premier and Minister of Education, with the semi-finals and finals taking place on Sunday.
Bermuda Debate Society Vice President Richard Hillen stated,”The quality of debate to date has been of an extremely high standard, with teams anxious to learn who will be advancing to the Semi-Finals. Our visiting nations have also thoroughly enjoyed their time in Bermuda outside the debates, and have been made extremely welcome by all sectors of the Community.
“We are also incredibly fortunate to have received the support of multiple donors and sponsors. We thank each of the following organizations for their generosity, without which, this tournament would not be possible: Bank of Bermuda Foundation, ACE, XL, Renaissance Re, Catlin, Validus, Montpelier Re, Partner Re, Department of Youth and Sports, CedarBridge Board of Governors-Department of Education, Axis, Attride-Stirling&Woloniecki, Conyers Dill &Pearman, Zurich, and the Bermuda Junior Service League.”
The finals of Pan-American Debate Championships are on Sunday [July 28] at City Hall, from 4pm.
