Island Games: Team Bermuda Meet At City Hall

Today [July 12] some of the Bermuda Island Games Team assembled in front of City Hall along with Sports Minister Wayne Scott, Hamilton Mayor Graeme Outerbridge and Chairman of the Organizing Committee Jon Beard.

The proceedings were started by a booming welcome from town crier Ed Christopher, the Mayor then welcomed Team Bermuda, and Minister Scott wished them success and warned them that the expectations of Bermuda were on them.

Jorgen Peterson, the Chairman of the International Island Games wished Team Bermuda well, but warned them that they were up against tough opposition, while Chairman Jon Beard thanked the team for their hard work to get themselves to this level.

The Games officially kick off tomorrow night, with the opening ceremony at the National Stadium, with over 1,000 athletes from some 20 different islands set to compete in Bermuda in a variety of sports including badminton, beach volleyball, cycling, football, golf, gymnastics, sailing, squash, swimming, tennis, triathlon and more.
