Island Games: Thurs. [Day 5] Updates/Summary

[Updated] The fifth day of the 2013 NatWest Island Games has concluded with the Isle of Man leading the medal table with 83 medals, while Bermuda has 58.

Today’s schedule [view here] included athletics, badminton, basketball, cycling, swimming, gymnastics, sailing, shooting, squash, volleyball, tennis, golf, and football.

Bermuda started the day off with 39 medals, and won 19 today to take the overall tally to 58. Gymnast Sadia Wilson claimed two gold medals, both Shianne Smith and Tre Houston won the 200m with Houston setting a new Island Games record.

Penalty shootout in the women’s football match:

The men’s golf team captured gold, while both the men’s and women’s football team defeated Greenand to win gold medals, with the women’s game going down to the wire with a penalty shootout which saw Bermuda’s goalkeeper make two key saves.

Bermuda now has 58 medals overall, with 22 golds, 12 silvers and 24 bronze medals. Tomorrow [Fri, July 19] is the final day of competition, with the Games concluding with the relays and half marathon on Friday evening.

Bermuda’s 19 medal wins on Thursday July 18:

  1. Gymnastics: Sadia Wilson won gold in the uneven bars
  2. Gymnastics: Sadia Wilson won gold on the beam
  3. Gymnastics: Gabrielle Vincent won bronze in the uneven bars
  4. Swimming: Ashley Yearwood won bronze in the 50m backstroke
  5. Swimming: Ashley Yearwood won silver in the 100m freestyle
  6. Swimming: Lisa Blackburn won bronze in the 100m individual medley
  7. Swimming: Female team won gold in the 4×100 medley relay
  8. Athletics: Shianne Smith won gold in the 400m hurdles
  9. Athletics: Shianne Smith won gold in the 200m
  10. Athletics: Natasha Trott won bronze in the 200m
  11. Athletics: Tre Houston won gold in the 200m [new record]
  12. Athletics: Jasmine Brunson won gold in the triple jump
  13. Athletics: Akeila Richardson won bronze in the triple jump
  14. Golf: Jarryd Dillas won silver in the individual event
  15. Golf: The men’s team won gold in the team event
  16. Cycling: Karen Bordage won silver in the criterium
  17. Basketball: Bermuda won the gold medal
  18. Football: The women’s team won the gold medal
  19. Football: The men’s team won the gold medal

  1. Swimming: Ashley Yearwood won gold in the 50m freestyle
  2. Swimming: Rebecca Sharpe won gold in the 200m backstroke
  3. Swimming: Female relay team won silver in the 4×100 freestyle
  4. Athletics: Tristan Joynes won gold in the 110m hurdles
  5. Athletics: Bruce DeGrilla won bronze in the long jump

  1. Athletics: Tamika Williams won bronze in the 1500m
  2. Athletics: Shianne Smith won bronze in the 100m hurdles
  3. Athletics: Dage Minors won a bronze in the 800m
  4. Athletics: Rachel Fox won a bronze in the 400m
  5. Swimming: Relay team won gold in 4 x 50m medley [new record]
  6. Swimming: Ashley Yearwood won silver in the 50m butterfly
  7. Swimming: Rebecca Heyliger won bronze in the 50m butterfly
  8. Swimming: Ashley Yearwood won silver in the 100m backstroke
