Gymnasts Finish Island Games With Five Medals

Team Bermuda wrapped up its Island Games experience on a high note today [July 18] with a strong showing in this morning’s Set Competition. Sadia Wilson won gold twice – on uneven bars and balance beam. These were the first gold medals for Bermuda in the gymnastics events. Gabby Vincent also added to Bermuda’s medal haul by earning a bronze on uneven bars.

The team started on the floor exercise. Wilson led the way with a 12.1 for 6th place, followed by Gabby Vincent in 7th with a 12.05 and Tabytha Hofheins in 8th with a 12.00. IOM took the gold and silver on floor, Rebecca Johnson in 1st with a 12.3 and Grace Harrison in 2nd with a 12.25. Bonita Mia Shurmer from Jersey rounded out the medals, earning the bronze with a 12.2.

On vault, Wilson was just .05 out of the medals with a 12.20 for 4th place. Vincent found her way to 9th place with a 12.1, and Hofheins was 15th with an 11.9. Medals were awarded to Nicole Burns from the IOM (1st, 12.4), Bethany Dikau from Cayman (2nd, 12.35), and Grace Harrison from the IOM (12.25).

Uneven bars was next for the team. Sadia Wilson turned in her gold medal performance for a 12.8, while Vincent grabbed the bronze with a 12.55. Samantha Soares was Bermuda’s next finisher with an 11.8 for 9th. Isle of Man’s Grace Harrison was second with a 12.65 and Tara Donnelly, also from IOM, tied Vincent to share the bronze medal.

Bermuda finished on beam with all competitors nailing their routines. Wilson nabbed the gold with a 12.85, while Vincent finished in 6th with a 12.05.

Clara James was just behind Vincent with her highest finish of the day, a 12.0 for 7th. Grace Harrison of the Isle of Man took the silver with a 12.8 and Charlotte May Pollard from Jersey earned the bronze with a 12.55.

Also competing for Team Bermuda was Danielle Wall, who earned her highest finish on beam with an 11.3 for 13th place.

Unfortunately, Zantae Dill and Sydney Mason were unable to compete today due to injury. They were replaced by Samantha Soares and Danielle Wall. Both Dill and Mason will be back to training next week.

The ladies earned 5 medals over the course of the gymnastics events. Silver in the team competition, a bronze from Tabytha Hofheins in the FIG Balance Beam competition, and the three medals earned today.
