Man Admits Punching Woman, Throwing Drink
Appearing in Magistrates Court this morning [July 10] Quinton Basden pleaded guilty to unlawfully assaulting the mother of his young child in June 2013 at a North Shore Road Devonshire nightclub. He admitted punching her in the eye and throwing a drink at her.
Crown Prosecutor Susan Mulligan told Senior Magistrate Archie Warner that the woman, who she said was present in Court today, had asked her to drop or withdraw the charge against Mr Basden, but that the Crown had elected not to do so.
Ms Mulligan said that both defendant and complainant had asked if they could get counselling in parenting skills. She said that this request seemed genuine.
The Senior Magistrate commented that these kinds of matters might be better handled in the system’s Family Court than in criminal court. He ordered a Social Inquiry Report and Mr Basden must return on 28th August for sentencing.
Mr Basden, 28, was granted $2,000 bail and was ordered not to interfere with his ex-girlfriend.

Nothing like playin’ the system to get a shorter or no sentence at all! No man should PUNCH a woman!!

Granted Larry…in this day and age I would rather somebody be punched though than shot and killed.

as a matter of fact,believe it or not…there is Lawful Assault!
ask a lawyer to explain,don’t forget to pay him after.
There are defenses to assault, which might render it lawful. But not in this case.
Lawful assault would is when someone intervenes to protect someone else from being assaulted by another.
some girls like getting beat up by their men……..they think its cute, sad world we live in!
Sad to say this is very true & I have seen a few cases first hand where women from abusive relationships actually didn’t know how to function in a normal relationship with someone who didn’t treat them rough or bad. The number of women I have had conversations with who have either been sexually, physically or mentally abused is far higher then I would of thought for this small island.
Years back after intervening between a guy beating off of his girlfriend because he caught her cheating on him. The woman said she wanted to go find him to make up with him. I asked her why does she keep doing things to cause drama in her relationships & why does she look for these kind of guys (she said the guy she was cheating with had hit off of her just the night before because she told him she was pregnant & didn’t for who. The guy she was cheating with was married & already had kids he was paying for from other relationships), the answer actually got me upset. She said if a guy is willing to make that kind of fuss over her it proves he loves her & it keeps the relationship exciting. With that I never bothered to help her whenever some guy decided he wanted to take his frustrations out on her instead of a punching bag or walking it off. The boyfriend in the end ended up leaving her because of some other drama she had caused that got him into some trouble. Now she’s bitter towards all men because of the kind of men she chooses to associate with but she keeps finding herself still going after those very same kind of guys.

Sounds like she realized that if she pressed charges & he got sent to jail that the money he provides for their child would stop coming in for the duration of his sentence plus whatever time it would take for him to find a new job.
