Education Minister Sends Out Letter Of Thanks

September 12, 2013

The Minister of Education Senator Nalton Brangman, today [Sept 12] issued a statement to thank principals, teachers, parents and students for the effort they made to ensure that we did not lose a day of school due to Tropical Storm Gabrielle.

Minister Brangman’s full statement has been sent to administrators, will be posted on the Ministry of Education website at www.moed.bm and can be seen below.

I wish to sincerely thank our Principals, Teachers, Parents and Students for the effort they made to ensure that we did not lose a day of school due to Tropical Storm Gabrielle.

I recognize that it was not easy to change gears having gone to bed on Tuesday expecting there to be no school and waking to find that it was business as usual. Based on visits made to some schools and reports I have received, our Principals, teachers and students were outstanding in ensuring that teaching and learning took place.

I do apologise for any inconvenience that was caused but I think it was the right decision to ensure that once we knew the danger had passed, that our children report to school.

Lessons were learned and should we have a similar occurrence in the future, we will undertake to learn from yesterday but also wish for our school community to know that our first priority will be to safety and as soon as possible, we will then be getting on with the important business of education.

While we did not have the ability to open all of our schools, I am pleased to report that 33 of our 35 schools were open and students were engaged in learning.

Thank you Minister. But we know you’re still not in charge.

    • Joe says:

he’s a hired surrogate but mom says “ele é um substituto contratado”

    • RME says:

      That’s for sure.

    • frank says:

they should get rid of him and that ministry and just hire former teachers that know what they our doing and send that American back home

    • B. Trump says:

Minister is not incharge…Mr Gibbons is, Brangman is merely a figure head..following orders…now the new commissioner will give him some orders….REALLY what a joke of a Minister….

      • Mike Hind says:

Evidence of this, or just more smear?

        • Questions says:

          Question:

Why is evidence required to provide an opinion, which clearly is the above statement?

          Q

          • Mike Hind says:

            A. Not even a little bit. “B Trump” is making a statement of fact, not an opinion. There’s a difference.

            B. Backing up your opinion isn’t a bad thing either. Showing why you’ve come to that conclusion reinforces it, and shows that it isn’t, as it is in “B. Trump”s case, politically motivated mountain-out-of-molehill faux outrage designed to smear.

            • Mazumbo says:

Evidence is he don’t come from a (Pedigree ?) family like Gibbons and crew and don’t have de Capital like Sir John. LMAO

            • Question says:

              MH:

              A. You are incorrect – a 4yr old could see and understand that the statement is an opinion, “moonlighting” as fact – - and you know it.

You really need to understand that people are required to adhere to your higher moral code when posting – - and before you reply indicating that they should – - they don’t have to – that’s what you don’t get.

Question – - why do you feel that we should?

              Q

              • Question says:

                *
You really need to understand that people are NOT required to adhere to your higher moral code when posting

    • Mazumbo says:

Did you apologize for not informing Hott107.5 and Magic102.7 Oh I forgot your party is unofficially BOYCOTTING them. LMAO Well he made a personal call to his favorite radio host on Hott107.5 and said he (Forgot to relay the message!!!!!!!!) WTF That is UNPRESIDENTED and CHESSEY to say the least.

  2. 1minute says:

Unfortunately my kids did miss yesterday. After being told there was no school the slept in a bit. Then they found out that there was school so they rushed to get ready and down to the bus stop. They waited nearly 45 minutes in the pouring rain, got soaked, called me, so I told them to go home for the day. It would be nice if they would build us a bus shelter, they promised 10 years ago…

  3. SoMuchMore says:

    sounds fair mate.

  4. ABM says:

Awwwwwww, a letter of thanks, how cute.

  5. Only in Bermuda says:

    Need a proof reader Minister

  6. Raymond Ray says:

Words of advice to all the critics. “You can’t have a margin of error when peoples lives are in the balance”. Now you go figure that out…

    • Questions says:

      Question:

If lives weren’t in danger, why the about-face?

      Q

    • Terry says:

      Margin of error of/to what.
What the hell you talking about.

    • Amazed says:

No-one has questioned the closure only the timing but I am sure you would not understand the difference!

  7. Vote for Me says:

Note to all – see the comments from the Private Schools.

Thye understand the inconvenience of the schools being CLOSED and then OPENED.

We now have the most unsatisfactory solution of the private schools making an independent decision from government about school closings.

PS – someone needs to tell the schools that the Minister has authority over all schools in Bermuda!!

  8. Come On Man says:

Mr. Brangman you could have used one of the 5 days that schools would not be using as a make up day. And kept the schools closed. But then again im not the genius who is in charge of the islands education dept or public safety. MUPPET!

  9. Errin Butterfield says:

Minister while you are at it can you kindly explain why there was a need for an acting Minister Of Education on the first day of school which happens to be not only your first day of school as Minister of Education but also that of the new oba government. Where you sick, had an emergency and/or off Island. I hope all is well, but I would like to know what was so important that you where missing on this day?

  10. Alvin Williams says:

Given the fiasco the off/on again school day the O B A minister of education cause with his indecision ; at this point even scramble eggs looks more organize.

  11. Fikrte Ming says:

Oh how lovely – a letter to thank us- oh please don’t don’t try to appease us now that you got so much bad press- too late- unorganized caos
