Seventh Tropical Storm Of 2013 Season Forms

Tropical Depression Seven gained official designation as a tropical disturbance on Wednesday [Sept 4] when it formed off the coast of Puerto Rico and was officially renamed as Tropical Storm Gabrielle by day’s end.

At 11.00pm Bermuda time the center of Tropical Storm Gabrielle was located about 70 miles South of Puerto Rico and was moving toward the northwest near 8 mph. Maximum sustained winds had increased to near 40 mph with higher gusts and some additional strengthening was forecast during the next 48 hours.

The Bermuda Weather Service said Tropical Storm Gabrielle is not a threat to Bermuda at this time with its closest point of approach to Bermuda within 72 hrs [3 days] forecast to be 568 nm to the SSW at 12.00am on Sunday [Sep 8].
