October 20th: Water Safety Boating Exercise

October 17, 2013

The Bermuda Water Safety Council will host a Water Safety boating exercise in the Great Sound area on Sunday evening October 20th.

A spokesperson said, “One of the components of the exercise will be demonstrations of the operation of flares and rockets that are used in the event of marine related emergencies.

“The exercise is scheduled for the period between 7:30PM and 8:30PM in an area between Pearl Island and the East Shore of Somerset. It can be expected that high powered distress rockets and flares will be seen in the zone mentioned above and that such equipment fired in other areas could still represent a genuine emergency.

“Boaters who have not yet registered for the Safety Seminar, to be held at the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club at 5:30PM and the Boat Safety Cruise to follow at 7PM, can do so by selecting the link on the home page of the Council’s website. There are still a few spaces remaining. Also a $5 donation would be appreciated.”

Chairman of the Water Safety Council, Ralph Richardson, said he is thrilled by the response from the boating community during the past few weeks and says the council will consider providing similar seminars in 2014.
