Berkeley Students Win High School Tech Quiz
Returning from a two year break, the Pembroke Rotary Club recently held its Annual High School Computer and Technology Quiz at the Mount Saint Agnes auditorium.
After a close contest, the students of Berkeley Institute were declared the overall winners, followed closely by Warwick Academy, CedarBridge Academy and Mount Saint Agnes Academy. Each team comprised of three students, with all displaying an impressive level of knowledge about tech related matters.
The winning Berkeley Institute team:
The format of the quiz meant each team answered many questions from various technology categories, ranging from acronyms and abbreviations [RAM, ROM, BMP etc], computer hardware, the internet, multimedia and computer software. To test their knowledge of current events, the students were asked a question about WikilLeaks.
The Warwick Academy team:
Maurice Darlington, President of Pembroke Rotary Club, said: “As an on-going commitment to supporting schools in Bermuda, Pembroke Rotary Club re-introduced the Quiz Night.
“As you can appreciate, we expected the quality of knowledge in this specialized field to be high since most students are very high-tech savvy. We were not let down.”
“Not only do we ask questions on computing taught at school, but also ask questions on everyday computer terms which the students will pick up using the computer at home. It is a win situation all around.
The CedarBridge Academy team:
Mr. Darlington concluded, ”The quality of the student’s knowledge is outstanding and that was shown on the night by the high number of correct answers. Pembroke Rotary Club is very pleased with the event and will strive to improve it with the feedback we ask for.”
In addition to the Technology Quiz, Pembroke Rotary Club raises thousands of dollars each year through various events to help Primary Schools purchase specific equipment that help teachers provide quality education to their students.
The Mount Saint Agnes team:
The Annual Children’s Fair hosted by the Rotary Club raises thousands of dollars each year, which schools have used to purchase computer equipment, books, music accessories, playground furniture and other items at their own discretion. The Pembroke Rotary Club said they remain committed to helping the community.

Agree with first comment, wish names of winners were displayed under photos. Thanks to the Rotary recognising that not all students are athletic we need more emphasis on nerds etc. Also govt schools need more positive recognition for the wonderful job they do. They accept everyone – private schools pick who they want! Well done Berkeley and Cedarbridge. I must acknowledge I am biased as all my grandchildren are in the government system.
