BGA To Host International Gymnastics Challenge

The Bermuda Gymnastics Association [BGA] is hosting the third annual International Gymnastics Challenge to be held at their National Training Center in St. David’s on November 16, 2013.

The United States Association of Independent Gymnastics Clubs [USAIGC] has sanctioned this meet as a qualifying meet for the USAIGC National International Championships to be held in Orlando in June 2014.

The female gymnasts will be competing in the USAIGC Copper, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum levels. The 35 Bermuda gymnasts will be joined by 85 athletes from New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, California and PEI, Canada.

Highlights of the International Gymnastics Challenge in January 2013:

They will be competing in three sessions – the first at 9am [Copper + Bronze levels], the second at 12pm [Silver level] and the third at 3:30pm [Gold and Platinum levels]. At 2pm there will be a Rhythmics Gymnastics demonstration by the Bermuda Rhythmics.

A spokesperson said, “The entire BGA competitive girls team will be taking part in this event, including the members of the NatWest Island Games team.

“It is the first competition in an especially exciting season for these senior athletes, which will include the Junior Pan American Championships in March and Commonwealth Games in July.

“The younger members of our team will also have an action-packed season: with competitions in Manhattan, Chicago, Pennsylvania, and USAIGC Nationals in Orlando. We are also in the planning stages to send a small team to a competition in South Africa in February.”
