Eight Inducted Into Martial Arts Hall Of Fame
The Bermuda and Fitness Academy Executive Committee and students recently hosted a banquet and paid tribute to Master Al Wharton for his dedication, commitment and knowledge of martial arts that he has passed on to past and current students
Many of the former students, Bermuda Technical Institute class mates personal friends and family were in attendance at the Henry VIII Restaurant. There were video clippings of students that participated in various competitions of martial arts from over 30 years ago.
On of the Committee Members Carlton Saunders said, “It was most exciting to see the vintage photos and the cheer of joy that was created in the atmosphere. The highlight of the evening was the inaugural introduction of the Bermuda Martial Arts Hall of Fame and the inductees.”
The inaugural inductees were the late Dr. Barbara Ball – Judo, former Statistician Calvin Smith – Judo, Skipper Ingham – Karate, Burnell Williams – Sanuces Ryu Jujitsu, Peter Larder – Shotokan Karate, Calvin Shabazz – Jujitsu and Al Wharton – Kung Fu.
Mr. Saunders concluded, “These inductees gave the audience a piece of history during their early years of training and it was most enjoyable to listen and learn about being humble to our fellow men.”
Excellent inductees in the hall of fame …congratulations to you all…! Respectfully Paget Wharton and Dawud Assadulah are equally deserving of their contributions to the Martial Arts hall of fame for their contributions as practioners and Teachers….!Congratulations to the Sports Body also….!Fairness must prevail in this Delightful sport and character building Activity…!

Congratulations to the inductees. Through your hard work you have passed on your knowledge to many martial artists on the island and they will carry it forward to the generations to come.
