Joanne Ball-Burgess Releases ‘Chiziqa’ Video
Making the jump from singer, dancer, and author to newly minted video star, Bermudian Joanne Ball-Burgess has released a music video for her dance single Chiziqa, a word that means “go crazy” in Kiswahili. The song and video were recorded in Kenya, the country where she currently resides with her husband and children.
Only weeks after escaping the terrorist attack at Nairobi’s Westgate Mall, Mrs. Ball-Burgess released the video, marking her first foray into that aspect of the music business.
Featuring Kenyan artist Fishaman, the song promotes the joy and freedom of expression found in dancing, with both lyrics and a catchy beat that encourage listeners to move their bodies.
Chiziqa builds on the music career that Mrs. Ball-Burgess, who also goes by the stage name Jo-1, began when she recorded the song Free to be Me for the official soundtrack of the film The Lizard and the Rock, a children’s film detailing a fable behind the discovery of Bermuda.
