Music Video: Jo-1 Releases ‘Boom Boom Bow’
Bermudian Joanne Ball-Burgess – also known as Jo-1 – who rose to fame through East African dance show Sakata, has released a new single entitled Boom Boom Bow.
The video’s description says, “What is the sound that thunder makes during a dark and stormy night? If there was a sound for a passionate, electric love, what would it be?
“Boom Boom Bow is a riveting display of musicality and artistry. A project of class and quality crafted in East Africa that displays the originality of true black beauty at a time when it’s needed most.
“Musically it is a dancehall banger that lyrically compares thunder and lightning to the passion that exists between lovers. Their love is strong, fierce, and connected. Their brown eyes peer into each other’s souls and without a word, they create magic. This is Boom Boom Bow.
“The song calls on the elements – earth, water, fire, and air to aid and support life and to manifest beauty in the world. Boom Boom Bow is a celebration of all that is ancient and of all that is modern, of past and present African traditions combined.
“A simultaneous celebration of the African continent and the Afro-Caribbean. A celebration of strength, survival, and triumph.

While it was Benji Wanjohi, a Kenyan photographer, who is credited with the fire concept that is seen in the video. It culminates wildly with the synchronistic choreography of Quincy Icon.
“Remnants of Kemet [Ancient Egypt] styled by Princess Zulu, colorful masks, incense, and gourds in elegant, reverent fashion from Goodies Interiors, as well as fun dance vibes with fishnet stockings, adorn the set. The ending of the video features a crowd of dancers, b-boys, and DJ Drift, who is also a b-boy. Colors, passion, and vibrance describe this scene.
