Typhoon Victims: Two Fundraisers This Weekend

The Association of Filipinos in Bermuda has, up to this date, raised close to $30,000 from its ongoing fundraising drive to assist the victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, and has two fundraising events scheduled for this weekend.

Tonight [Nov 23] Flanagan’s will hold a fundraising screening of the Pacquiao-Rios fight, and entrance tickets will cost $20. Proceeds of the funds will go towards the Association’s relief fund for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan. Manny Pacquiao is a Filipino boxing icon and is a symbol of hope and strength for the Filipinos as they struggle to rise up from this disaster.

The next fundraising event is tomorrow, Sunday, 5 pm, at St. Paul AME Church Centennial Hall in Hamilton. A Thanksgiving Dinner is being generously provided by Pizza House Restaurants at the cost of $20 per person. Tickets are available at the door, and entertainment will be provided by the Association’s performers, including dancers and vocalists.

Funds raised will be equally divided 3 charities, the Philippine National Red Cross, Operation Blessing, and Catholic Relief Services, along with direct assistance to Filipinos in Bermuda whose families were severely affected by the storm.

As an ongoing campaign, donors can send money by cheque to the Association of Filipinos in Bermuda at P.O. Box HM 1100, Hamilton HMEX.

The death toll from the typhoon has spiked to 5,235, CNN reported. On Thursday, the toll stood at slightly more than 4,000. They also reported that 23,501 were injured due to the epic storm, with 1,613 reported missing.
