Ascendant Group Release Responsibility Report
The Ascendant Group — the parent company of BELCO — has began distributing its first Corporate Responsibility Report, which is being mailed to all shareholders and will be distributed to other stakeholders in the community.
Walter M. Higgins, President & Chief Executive Officer said, “Our Board’s Corporate Responsibility Committee, which is Chaired by Dr. Wilbert N.E. Warner, initiated development of the report in the interest of adopting the best practices of publicly traded companies internationally.
“There is no requirement for Bermuda-based companies to produce Corporate Responsibility Reports, but we have opted to do so in order to tell our story from a perspective that complements the financial information in our Annual Report.”
Through the Corporate Responsibility Report, Ascendant Group is able to discuss how its operating companies – Bermuda Electric Light Company, Bermuda Gas & Utility Company, Air Care, iFM, PureNERGY Renewables and iEPC – contribute to the local Bermuda community.
The report addresses how the company fulfills its responsibilities to customers, neighbours, employees, retirees, business partners, suppliers, shareholders, the charitable organisations that receive support and the community at large.
The report includes a letter from S. Reginald Minors, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and a Q&A with Mr. Higgins, covering a wide range of topics that include the company’s perspectives on alternative and affordable energy.
The report highlights corporate support to helping organisations, education support and training development, as well as health, safety and environmental stewardship.
