BSSF To Host Football Knock Out Cup Finals
The Bermuda School Sports Federation [BSSF] will be hosting a weekend football tournament at the National Sports Centre beginning on December 13, with 23 matches scheduled to determine the champions of eight divisions.
Fifteen semifinals will be held on Friday, December 13 at the National Sports Centre North Fields and BFA Field. The finals for all eight divisions will be held on Saturday, December 14 at the NSC North Fields.
A spokesperson said, “The BFA has once again been extremely accommodating, canceling youth footbal league matches on the weekend in order to provide the space needed for the tournament.
“Admission for both days of the festival is free for all. There will, however, be a $5.00 parking fee for all cars wishing to park in the stadium on Saturday. The money earned through parking fees will be used to offset the costs of holding the two-day event. Vendors will also be on hand selling food and refreshments.
“The semifinals will get underway at 2.00pm on Friday with four matches scheduled. Defending champion Saltus will take on Dalton E. Tucker in the Primary School girls semifinal; Saltus will also take on Whitney in the middle school girls semifinal.
“New champions will be crowned in the Middle School Under 13 division. Clearwater Middle School swept both titles last year, but do not factor in the under 13 semifinals this year. Saltus had the surprise of the knock out cup after last year when they took down the previously undefeated T.N. Tatem in the under 13 quarter finals. They will face league title contenders Somersfield Academy, while league leaders Sandy’s will battle Whitney Institute.
“The 3.30pm matches will see defending champions Elliot Primary battle Purvis Primary in the other primary School girls final. League Champions Sandy’s Middle School will face off against BHS in a middle school girls show down, and league champions The Berkeley Institute will square off against CedarBridge Academy in the under 16 semifinals. At the end of the day, Saltus and Warwick Academy will battle to earn a spot in the final.
“Both Primary School Semifinals will be played at 5.00pm on Friday, December 13. West Central Champions Paget Primary will play West Champions Dalton E. Tucker while East Zone Champions St. George’s Preparatory will face the winner of the Elliot Primary versus Somerset Primary quarterfinal. The over 13 Middle School semifinals will see defending champions Clearwater Middle School take on rivals The Whitney Institute while Dellwood will tackle T.N. Tatem.
“Friday evening will finish off at 6.00pm with the senior school varsity semifinals and the senior school girls semifinal. Warwick Academy will take on Saltus, while defending champions CedarBridge Academy will have to beat Berkeley Institute to get back in the final. CedarBridge Academy is already in the girls final and awaits Friday’s winner between Saltus and The Berkeley Institute.”
