Opposition Leader On ‘Standing For Democracy’

December 19, 2013

[Opinion column written by Opposition Leader Marc Bean]

Good day, Bermuda.

“Everyman got a right to decide his own destiny, and in this judgment there is no partiality” Hon. Robert Nesta Marley

Standing for Democracy

The PLP has always defended the democratic right of Bermudians to vote on matters of national importance.

We are the party that, through the works of the late Dr. Roosevelt Brown & others, fought for universal adult suffrage in order for all Bermudians to have a right to vote.

We are the party that fought against the property vote in Bermuda and in the municipalities of Hamilton & St Georges.

It is in this vein, and with this proud history, that the PLP crafted the 2012 Gaming Referendum Bill to allow you, the people of Bermuda, to have your say on an issue of national importance.

In sharp contrast, it has been persons aligned with the UBP who have often sought to suppress the voice and will of the Bermudian people. They are the ones who fought against electoral reforms of 2002 in which we brought about one man one vote.

It therefore comes as no great surprise that in the same week that we see the return of a full-fledged UBP cabinet, the democratic rights of Bermudians are once again squashed. It is simply a part of their political and social ideology that justifies the minority dictating to the majority.

“No more internal power struggle, we come together to overcome the little trouble.”

The OBA’s attempt to accuse the PLP of sabotaging the referendum conveniently overlooks one important fact; our voice was but one in a choir of many Bermudians demanding a neutral question. We were joined by The Royal Gazette, BEST and Mr. John Barritt

Bipartisan outrage by Bermudians who expressed their concerns not only to their MPs but also via radio talk shows, blogs, Facebook, etc.

To attempt to portray the PLP as the only ones standing strong against the biased wording of the referendum question is patently false and, quite frankly, an obvious act of desperation.

OBA should have taken this past year to collaborate on the structuring of a mutually agreed upon question. From there, they needed to embark on educating the people on the pros and cons of gaming.

Then the Bermudian voter, armed with an understanding of OBA’s vision for gaming, could have the opportunity to express their opinion by voting in a fair & balanced referendum. However, the OBA instead chose a road of lies and deceit as a means to justify instituting their own agenda.

“And I don’t want my people to be tricked by mercenaries”

This week they attempted to rob you of your right to have your voice heard on gaming. What’s next? Does it get any worse then attempting to circumvent democracy?

The PLP stands as but one avenue for your democracy to be defended. We are not perfect and as such we invite the people of Bermuda to work through community groups, unions, schools and churches to demand that your voice be heard on this and every issue affecting our nation.

- Marc Bean

Democracy, Mark stands for a piece of de Action

    • Indepedent says:

      @buzz,

How is he different from any other business men like Mr. Dunkley, or Mr. Richards, or anyone else for that matter? They all getting a piece of the action, and trying to get more.

      • buzz says:

@ Indpendent I had more respect for mr. Bean, I thought
he was a very intelligent Man, that could have made a sucess
in any business, especially one that would help his People, but
instead he choose’s to take the low Road, and go for the quick Buck, but what is worst is that he opens his Sp each with a quote from Bob Marley, Here is a quote from Bob he should listen to, Tired to See yah Face,
Time to get out you otta de race, you draw Bad Card

        • Moojun says:

I am howling with laughter right now: “The PLP has always defended the democratic right of Bermudians to vote on matters of national importance”

…and then seemingly to ignore the outcome: Do we not remember the referendum about the Death Penalty that returned a 75% in favour of retaining it vote? Yes, you guessed it, it was abolished by the PLP shortly afterwards against the actual wish of the people.

…but then on THE biggest matter of national importance, Independence no less, the PLP refused to have a another referendum (because they likely knew the outcome would be as it had been in previous referendums) and said that it will be included as a re-election platform item, presumably hoping that this MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL NATIONAL DECISIONS, gets lost in the usual General Election CIRCUS. Thanks PLP.

I won’t even mention how consultative of the average voting Bermudian the PLP were on the matter of who should actually be the Premier following Dame Jennifer Smiths’(almost) return to power. Or even the massively consultative process that the PLP engaged in before accepting the Uighars (you know, in case the UK or US had issues).

Please tell us more about how AMAZING and representative the PLP will be when returned to power Mr. Bean. We, the voting public, are all ears. And I ask, because I actually do believe that the PLP will be returned to power at the next election… and right now it scares me. You need to start showing the non-PLP faithful that you have got what it takes.

As Paula Cox was fond of saying, without ever really meaning it, can you ‘grasp the nettle’?

          Sincerely,
A man in the street who has the vote

          • LOL (original TM*) says:

Think they even remember what you mention. I seem to remember “a mandate to rule” thing that was said quite alot in the last 8years.

            LOL

deMARCracy=What can the people do for Marc?

Well said Mr. Bean, WELL SAID… history speaks loud…

      • Lebron says:

All in your head pal, there is no OBA/white folk conspiracy, do you honestly believe that? It’s crazy.

It’s simple; PLP kicked out for doing a bad job, OBA imparting a different view of the world – pro-IB, some sensible legislation, and some mistakes too.

That’s just the pattern of government, I’d calm down Betty.

        Happy Christmas.

        • LOL (original TM*) says:

She/he them believe what ever they pay her/him/them to write.

          LOL

    • Hmmm says:

Where was our vote on payroll tax inceease, where was our vote on Uighers, where was our vote on penalizing Bermudians because they married a non bermudian.

  2. watching says:

Well said Mr. Bean. I anticipate the detractors will flood the Bernews blog soon to try and dilute your message, but you are on point with this column.

  3. Mazumbo says:

He shook his head in amazement at the contrast to Caribbean blacks, who were held in subjugation through poverty and starvation and by force backed up by gunboats from Bermuda. Bermudians were not starved into submission, but “fed” and “clothed” into submission.
They were also flattered by the refrain of respective governors who contended they were the best-dressed; best fed, and best housed Negroes in the world.
    Dr. E. F. Gordon.

      • looking and listening says:

Hmmmmm. Well read but virtually no common sense. Post Office 101?????

  6. Observer says:

Mr. Bean, you and the PLP will try everything possible to see that the OBA is not successful in bringing new investment and improvement of the Economy to Bermuda.
You will sabotage all efforts so that the PLP may have a better chance of getting back into power in the next election. THAT is what you are doing!

Premier Cannonier, keep making the tough decisions and get the economy back on track so that our Bermudians can get BACK TO WORK!

It is all about saving BERMUDA!

    • frank says:

the premier is not the one making the decisions everyone knows that
dam got to pay someone over$100,000 to put a few words togather before he can speak to the people he needs to go

  7. OMG says:

Bla bla bla – more of the same old crap coming from the leader(??) of the PLP. Maybe he is not understanding that Bda is in a hard place with many out of work, many on reduced hours and in order to make neds meet they need a job. Bring whatever is needed to Bda to get “our” people back to work and revenue back to Bda – else more of the SAGE Commission recomendations will get implemented and then more people are affected!!!

Marc – bring solutions not problems to the table!!!

  8. ERJ says:

From the March 2013 Parliamentary Hansard:

Hon. Marc A. R. Bean: Now, the One Bermuda Alliance Government indicated that they would take the same path pre-election. Post-election, I am not sure . . . I heard an interview by the Honourable Premier. And it was kind of greyish. So I am not sure if he was saying that gaming is off the table or their intention is to say, Forget the Referenda. Let’s just make a decision. Now, I will tell you what. From our side, although we would …like something—all moral questions to go before a Referenda—if the Government sees it is within our national interest to avoid the costs and expense and the hassle of a Referenda and you want to make a decision—

    An Hon. Member: Bring it!

Hon. Marc A. R. Bean: —just bring it, man. You will have our full support. Bring it! Bring it!
    [Desk thumping]

Hon. Marc A. R. Bean: And the reason why is because when we speak about hotel development and tourism, it is our considered experience that when we have spoken to so many developers, one of the key aspects of them determining whether they wanted to invest or not was whether or not they would have a gaming licence.

    An Hon. Member: Yes!

Hon. Marc A. R. Bean: It is absolutely true. That is why I felt that we had moved too slow on it, Mr. Speaker, while we were Government. Because the developers were saying, We want a gaming licence.
And it is not just for adding an amenity to the tourism product, but, from a developer’s perspective, it is return on investment. We are not sure if our beds and our rooms are going to be filled. But we are sure
that gaming will give us another revenue source that can assure that we generate a profit, which all investors desire. So I would say again, if you feel in your wisdom as a Government to bypass the Referenda and just make that tough decision—because it would be tough, because you will have some segments of society that are going to resist—we understand that. From our side, we would encourage the Government to do so, proceed.

    An Hon. Member: Hear, hear!

Hon. Marc A. R. Bean: And you have our support. And that is because of the national interest of this country.

An Hon. Member: Sooner rather than later!

Hon. Marc A. R. Bean: Yes! And sooner rather than later.

    • Sandgrownan says:

Bbwwwahahaha..that is most excellent. What a disingenuous douche he is.

      • Sandy Bottom says:

        This is hilarious.

I agree with you. Marc Bean is a disingenuous douche.

      • Betty Trump says:

Yes, this is so powerful Mr. Bean, and the diehardblindfaithfulness followers can not accept it, their only power is to write a distasteful comment….weak at best…carry on…

        • Hmmm says:

Bean needs to resign over this.

        • 32n64w says:

From the Official Hansard Report, 1 March 2013, Page 266

“Hon. Marc A. R. So Betty who is the “the diehardblindfaithfulness followers” now? By his own words your leader and his fellow MPs have made duplicitous remarks that wreak of hypocrisy and politicking – all for their own selfish interests. Talk about betrayal of the voter.

PLP – Putting party before the country since 1998; one unemployed voter at a time.

    • swing voter says:

talk about words coming back to haunt….

    • Suzie Quattro says:

I think the phrase the kids use these days is ROTFLMAO.

    • Betty Trump says:

“Then the Bermudian voter, armed with an understanding of OBA’s vision for gaming, could have the opportunity to express their opinion by voting in a fair & balanced referendum. However, the OBA instead chose a road of lies and deceit as a means to justify instituting their own agenda.”

What a lies do you speak of…

      FACT 1:

The PLP never suggested that a REFERUMDUM not be held. But suggested that the UBPoba get moving with having one.

      FACT @:
THE JETGATE 4 had a Plan in place… the UBPoba need to be TRANSPARENT AND HONEST TO THE PEOPLE OF BERMUDA..

      • Betty Trump says:

FACT 3#: the plan include that a bill on Gaming must be past to ensure the Investors will come on board. The Quickest way and method to ensure that this bill past, was by removing the REFERUMDUM, taking away the VOTE from the people of Bermuda.

The UBPoba did not want to come out and tell the people, what deal has or most likely been agreed upon. The UBPoba knew they would not have the wide support of the people to perhaps past this bill, and so the secret deal was done….. and put into action.

First PLan was not to change the wording of the REFERUMDUN, as to change it would result in a lost vote.

Second was to play the “Blame it on the PLP GAME” now they have been EXPOSED…

UBPoba needed to stand up and be HONEST AND TRANSPARENT, and as a result the CREDITABILTIY OF THE UBPoba is never to be trusted again. FOLKS know this.

NOW UBPoba fans that play the role: now press dislike….click. FACTS REMAIN THE SAME ahah.//////

        • Hmmm says:

Wow look at you go….really desperate to draw attention awayfrom the Hansard aren’t you. Bean should resign.

    • Betty Trump says:

      @ northrock cakes…

FACT 1: What your clearly over looking is that the PLP was encouraging the government to get it going and not to delay the process. This did NOT include holding a REFERENDUM. There was NO message to do away with the Referendum. So do not get it twisted, and please try and get it right for a change.

Looks more like your Premier was trying to twist what he actually was pushing for, especially when he call Bean on the telephone. Bean took it back to his MPs whom all voted that a Referendum must be held, as this was part of their promise to the people of Bermuda. STOP with your twisted facts please…. I listen to the house, and also read….

      FACT 2:

The other fact is that UBPoba knew about the cost of a Referendum pre-election, this was not the reason for their trick of a move now.

      FACT 3:

The REAL REASON is that UBPoba the JETGATE 4 $ had made a deal with a developer, but this deal included that this “REFERENDUM BILL” must be past, TO ENSURE THE DEAL. Since the UBPoba felt that they had lost the vote of the public in regards to this bill. They secretly decided to take it to the house FOR a vote and do away with the REFERENDUM.

      FACT 4:

All the UBPoba had to do was to be “HONEST and TRANSPARENT” with the people of Bermuda, and stop hiding out behind using the “BLAME IT ON THE PLP game” for their reason not to have a REFERENDUM…. YOU NOW SEE THAT TRANSPARECY is KILLING THE UBPoba….and so is the truth. THIS WILL COME OUT SOONER RATHER THAN LATER…STAY TUNE..listen to the twist by the UBPoba in the way in which they do it ! Political strategy at work…

      FACT 5:

UBPoba have lost their CREDITABILTY and the GAMES will ensure them to of becoming as some call it…the new buzz words “A ONE TIME GOVERNEMENT”…

LETS COME RIGHT AND HONEST>>>THE ONLY GAME WAS THE JETGATE 4 SECRET PLAN NOT TO HOLD A REFERENDUM….nothing more, and nothing less.

      • Hmmm says:

Even more…read the Hansard…those official records show the truth.

      • Sandy Bottom says:

Betty, Bean is a two faced liar. Read the written record. Hansard. He should resign Betty, we can’t trust him.

        • ALL FAKE . says:

OOoo all this s*** is stupid they all are liers,as long as there pockets are full u think the care about us lol nupe…….

      • looking and listening says:

Betty my dear Betty. You must really stop trying so hard. By the way show me your company and I’ll tell you who you are. Flea rising situation here.

        Dept = Debt
        Past = passed

Past… I walked past the building

Passed….. the Bill was passed in the Senate yesterday.
        Got it???!;;8;

        • Betty Trump says:

Looks more like the daily group of diehardblindfaithfulness UBPoba fans are working hard to try and discredit the PLP. Look at the comments, that are full of mis-information and lies. I think that is more of someone working hard… also look at the other diehard fans that love to click the dislike …… keep clicking.,,,does not change the facts….

      • No facts here. Just your twisted perception of the real facts. Bean lied – FACT.

    • Tough Love says:

And this is before the OBA rigged the referendum question. So what’s ur point?

  9. Sandgrownan says:

The faux outrage is perplexing. Why would the opposition expect to be included? There is no obligation on behalf of Government to include them. So, underhanded, perhaps, but it’s hardly an affront to democracy. It’s certainly not a acandal, or disturbing. The bigot is just upset he was out manouvered.

It’s not like the Premier flew four stateless people into Bermuda without telling anyone is it?

Quoting Marley is a nice touch but slightly juvenile.

  10. colin s says:

Mr Bean attempts to put the PLP in a positive light yet it was he who was willing to support a joint effort to promote the benefits of gambling (and not both the pros and cons as he suggests). If the PLP were so in favour of moving forward with their 2012 referendum, why didn’t they do so? If the PLP were so in favour of every man the right to vote, what explains their disenfranchising hundreds of taxpayers their right to vote for Corp of Hamilton representatives. It’s clear to me that they have selective memories.
I agree with some of your achievements up until the time you were elected Government – but it all went down hill from there.

    • Betty Trump says:

MR. Bean never agreed on taking away the vote from the people, what part do you fail to understand. He encouraged the government to get on with it, but not to take away the vote from the people. STOP with the Twist game of FACTS…REALLY

      • Hmmm says:

Nope wrong, read the Hansard, the official record.

      • 32n64w says:

“MR. Bean never agreed on taking away the vote from the people”

Betty that is an untrue statement not based in FACT.

From the Official Hansard Report, 1 March 2013, Page 266

“Hon. Marc A. R. Bean: So I would say again, if you feel in your wisdom as a Government to bypass the Referenda and just make that tough decision—because it would be tough, because you will have some segments of society that are going to resist—we understand that. From our side, we would encourage the Government to do so, proceed.

        An Hon. Member: Hear, hear!

Hon. Marc A. R. Bean: And you have our support. And that is because of the national interest of this country.

An Hon. Member: Sooner rather than later!

Hon. Marc A. R. Bean: Yes! And sooner rather than later”

  11. Here is one for u Marc Bean! “Free your mind from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds”! Hon. Nesta Marley! BTW Everyone in this country has a voice WE are NOT living in 1909 its 2013! U have UBP within the PLP ranks so stop the nonsense!

  12. When a person who gave “his own special PLP friends – (“Us”)” special planning permissions when a PLP Govt. Minister, suddenly gets “Democratic religion” and writes a thinly veiled “Us” vs. “the UBP” piece it is clear to me that he nor his party wish to see Bermudians and Bermuda grow and progress as a multi-racial/cultural society. Further, Bermuda has only had one referendum since 1609. I don’t recall the PLP saying in their election platform that they planned to bankrupt Bermuda, but they sure tried, once Eugene Cox stood down as Finance Minister.

    • Betty Trump says:

STOP with your twisted lies, you sound like your Premier now..guess you can not help it, as he has taught you well and this is now the same UBP rearing their ugly heads once again…you and all the other diehard folks..

      • norf says:

You can’t stand the truth! Mr. Bean should resign. The Hansard proves he is a bold faced liar. PLP trying their best to obstruct Bermuda from growing. They are focused on small matters and processes rather than bold action, vision and progress. There is nothing in our constitution about voters rights to have referendum. You are living in the past with your UBP bogeyman. UBP is dead. There had a nice funeral for them last year on Dec. 17th. PLP missed it because they were so busy losing that day.

  13. swing voter says:

the old skool PLP is gone…..long gone. reminds of the kid who likes to get his own way by saying “do you know who my daddy is? He played cup match you know!”

  14. Navin Johnson says:

Mr Bean sounds weaker with each useless press release……maybe he is focusing his attention on his new gambling business to take the remaining cash from his constituents….

    • Kangoocar says:

Speaking of his new gambling business, I read in the paper that this business will ” diversify court st and all the other bla bla total support stuff!! It is very interesting how we have not heard the opinions of the plp church support base concerning this???? Funny the fact that silence speaks very loudly???

  15. Betty’s internet must be down or she’s taking a Christmas cruise.

    • Kangoocar says:

Nah!! Being “betty” is really a group of plp mp’s, I can assure you they are hunkered down somewhere planning their next disruptive move to create more division in this island!!!!

    • Betty Trump says:

NO its up down here in Australia… but guess what I know that
you will twist FACTS, as you and the other blindfaithfulness diehards will say or do anything if it makes you feel better. I understand your motives and desires. But, I also know the political game and at present I am watching….I know the chess pieces are moving…and time is on game….

Well said Mr. Bean, great piece of reading…keep pushing on….it is killing the UBPoba diehards, that is why they write such comments…you have got them paying close attention…no comments means they are not reading…. Thanks for reading folks…its too powerful for them ……to digest …..

      • Sandy Bottom says:

Betty, you’re obviously too blindfaithfulbelieveliesiness to read what Bean actually said. He can’t be trusted Betty.

      • hmmm says:

IT IS NOT A GAME IT IS PEOPLES LIVES, OUR LIVES !!!!

  16. Come On Man says:

I do believe in democracy however its a word commonly used by politicians but never practiced as you can see by this sudden change of policy for a gambling referendum. I hope the decision was made because the vote may not favor gambling because of the brainwashed religious influence in Bermuda who will vote NO.

  17. Nuffin but da Truth says:

Beanie still don’t get it…no one interested in what he or the plp have to say.

    • Betty Trump says:

OBAubp still do not get it….but lets watch folks…they think they got one up…. aha

  18. blackbird says:

@nuffin, that’s where your wrong, go talk to people in the street. everyone’s ready for an election!!

    • Hmmm says:

After reading that Hansard I think the PLP want a vote to vote out their leader. WOW shocking.

      • Betty Trump says:

THATS WHERE YOUR GOT IT TWISTED HMMMM…. he never agreed to not having a REFERMUDUM, but merely suggested the government not delay the process of getting it moving… so the HANSARD as read by you and your diehardblindfaithfulness fans is wrong…. it is twisted thinking like your party leaders….folks are not for this…but keep it up…it was this kinda blind thinking that will make you a one time government…I love it…

        • Hmmm says:

Read the record….there in your face. Betty, you are going on overdrive trying to pretend it is something different, but it is not. Bean should resign now.

          • Betty Trump says:

YOu read the conversation between your leader and Bean this week. BEAN told him NO, the people must decide and this was apart of the PLP’s platform. So stop trying to overlook this most recent piece of information. OH you diehards are really showing your true colors …… TRANSPARENCY I THINK NOT>

            • hmmm says:

Read the Hansard….FACT FACT FACT BOOM !

The official record means Betty Trumps is wrong. If Betty Trumps is wrong, then He/She is a liar too.

Perhaps Betty Trumps is Bean !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

there you go my Precious !

        • Hmmm says:

Oh and it is the recorded record. The official record. It is not twisted. It is what it is.

          • Betty Trump says:

What happen this week in a meeting with the Premier and Bean. He told him NO, the PEOPLE must decide. YOU know this, YOUR Premier knows this, that is why he refuses to speak now….so stop trying to twist things look…..looks like your lying like your Premier.

            • Sandy Bottom says:

So when did Bean decide to change his mind? And why? Why was he so against the referendum when he spoke in Parliament and so for it this week? Was he just being a pr1@k? Does he think it’s a f****** game?

        • Sandy Bottom says:

He told them to proceed without the referendum Betty. Bean said it.

          • Betty Trump says:

That was not the case during their conversation, Bean informed him the Cabinet rejected the idea when the Premier approached him. So do not overlook this one little key fact….

            • Suzie Quattro says:

Read the Hansard Betty. Bean’s exact words are in Hansard. His exact words, Betty.

        • 32n64w says:

Funny, once Betty’s beloved PLP are found to be lying, duplicitous, self-serving politrickians she decides the Hansard must be wrong.

You can’t make this stuff up.

Yup, like trying to build a castle with dry beach sand. Waste of time.

  21. Herb says:

May we have a joint or Two?

  22. Bill Stephens says:

Mr. Bean is a hypocrite – he says he does not support locals gambling yet he opens a sportsbook!?! What the hell is that all about?

    • looking and listening says:

The guy has got bills to pay too. He got Dept too. I would have thought since he is such an esteemed pilot a stab at giving pilot lessons would have been more honourable for a wannabe honourable man.

  23. Sad says:

Just think this should be reposted:

    • Concerned Citizen says:

Betty, you are spot on agin. Take a look at the ubpoba faithful insiders who are collectivly trying to attack Bean, calling for him to resign etc etc. I think this is the reaction to those RG POLL results that revealed that inspite of the obaubp delusions, Bean is highly regarded and respected by at least half of those polled. Even 25 percent white respondents like him. Combine that with the demonic antics shwn by the puppet leader/surrogate, and his controversial, not to be trusted sidekicks, crockwell and Pettingill, and here you have 5 demon followers blogging away at the character of Marc Bean. That’s why Bean described the OBA as demonic and they will last a total of 14 months. Crockwell seems to lose sleep when he thinks of the statement. What is funny, is how the OBA can lie, and break promises ALL year, yet they are using BEANs words from March to try and hang him! Like I said, only Demons can act this way. The OBA are disintegrating and Marc Bean will destroy them.

      • Starting point says:

What are you a 4th level dungeon master from DnD? Demonic lol, quite the imagination there…I strike at thee with MAGIC MISSLE!

      • Suzie Quattro says:

You need to actually read the Hansard. I know it’s a lot of effort, but if you do that, you will be able to follow the plot. Bean said he wanted the government to forget the referendum and allow gaming. He said the PLP would support that. In fact, he actively encouraged the government to do it. And now he pretends something different.

        • Concerned Citizen says:

So if we post the Hansard and press statements from your puppet premier and crockwell, when they continued to PROMISE a referendum, what will your response be? Especially after they said it at least 10 times.

          • Concerned Citizen says:

Oh I forgot, demons do whatever they like. 14months….hahahaha

          • Starting point says:

I do not think the OBA is denying that they have changed their mind on the issue, they clearly have. Is Bean then admitting that he was asking that we NOT have a referendum but now he is in favour of a referendum? I think changing minds after reevaluation whether it be OBA or PLP leadership is a noble trait as long as they own up (personally I think the OBA indicating that they changed minds due to the PLP threat was weak myself, they should have said they changed their minds because time is of the essence, they believe it is of benefit to the country, they country voted us in to make these decisions and as such we are making them, have a nice day).

BTW – I keep reading the puppet premier comment, I assume that is because you feel that black people in Bermuda are incapable of making choices and being leaders…shame that you have such a low regard to our black Bermudian leaders……we have had and continue to have an incredible number of strong Black leaders in politics, business and the community. For you to insinuate that a black leader is simply a puppet is truly an insult.

btw. I have to go on the road this afternoon so I can not respond to your predictable rebuttal that only this particular black leader is a puppet, not your chosen favourites. I would then simply reply showing your hypocrisy with some sort clever mocking comment.

I cast prestidigitation ! and head out for the day.

      • Betty Trump says:

Thanks for you comment, WELL SAID…. you are spot on…they are reflecting back to MARCH comments, and not the most recent comments made by Bean. They are overlooking that when the Premier most recently asked Bean he took it back to his Cabinet for a vote and they VOTED NO>NO BEAN informed the Premier that they will not overlook the Referendum and the People must VOTE. AS this was part of their election platform

THe same 6 folks write on here for the UBPoba, and they have a set of UBPoba blindfollowers whom love to click the dislike …click….but it does not change FACTS> PAID BLOGGERS FAILING ON THE JOB>..click….

  24. Starting point says:

LOL @ the Hansard….nothing worse, PLPites must be racing in circles trying to spin that one.

  25. campervan says:

How can this evangelical Christian with his discriminatory and intolerant views on the gay community stand up there with a straight face and preach about democracy?
PLP; get it together please and find another leader who is willing stand up for everyone.

    • Betty Trump says:

I think the @Concern Citizen puts it best:

Betty, you are spot on again. Take a look at the ubpoba faithful insiders who are collectively trying to attack Bean, calling for him to resign etc etc. I think this is the reaction to those RG POLL results that revealed that inspite of the obaubp delusions, Bean is highly regarded and respected by at least half of those polled. Well said, I know there are a few paid UBPoba BLoggers attempting to discredit Bean, after all is most favored. This is killing the blindfaithfulness followers….

Loving it…. MOVE THE CHESS PIECES….while the other diehards click dislike…..FACTS THE SAME>

      • campervan says:

I don’t really know what your comment above means in relation to my post madam, it sounds very confused and rambling.
I do know, however, that the current leader of the Bermuda labour party Mr. Marc Bean has made public disparaging and sinister remarks with regards to the gay community here.
How can he talk about standing up for democracy, yet deride a whole section of the community?

In light of todays news from Uganda where the evangelical Christian lobby have forced through an anti homosexual law carrying life in jail, we need to be VERY vigilant about who is at the helm of our political parties.

  26. aceboy says:

LOL Betty is spinning faster than the cups and saucers at Disney.

    Now it is demons.

    What an absolute joke.

  27. Trumpety Trump says:

Miss Trump, have you considered the possibility that almost half the voters are too stupid to know what they’d be voting for?

After all, they voted PLP didn’t they?

    • Betty Trump says:

I have never underestimate the high intelligences of the Voters, that is something often done by folks like you and other UBPoba followers. Your comments and others like it, suggest you and the UBPoba party and followers often reflect voters to be lacking knowledge.

The funny thing now is that your all doing it right now, by calling folks names such as Stupid. Recently, your Premier did the same thing by by taking away the rights of folks from voting on an important issue that effects all of Bermuda, the REFERMDUM vote. What does this say about his respect for the voter?

Since your blindness prevents you from seeing things clearly, I understand the need for the comments coming from the selected UBPoba bloggers. Folks can see it is the same selected group of negative bloggers whom write nasty comments daily. NO one is blind, nor are they uninformed.

While you and others are not willing to face the truth…the reality is the shift in regards to the UBPoba is changing. Folks are not feeling UBPoba, and thanks for folks like you which are helping them to see the real UBPoba. Keep up the blogging in negative remarks, they sure now help people see the UBPoba have not changed and never did !!

      Enjoy the XMAS !!

      I loving the season…

    • JustAskin2 says:

“Miss Trump, have you considered the possibility that almost half the voters are too stupid to know what they’d be voting for?”

You know… this paper should this comment on the front page, so all Bermuda could see what some OBA supporters think of them.

      • Mike Hind says:

And should they post some of the things that PLP supporters say, too?

Or is it only bad when the other side does it?

        • Betty Trump says:

Just image if I posted the number of times the Premer promised us a REFERDUNM…it exceeds more than over 10 times…guess that will tell us the real story of Mis-conception by this UBPoba government…REALLY …TRANSPARENCY…I think NOT !!

          • Sandy Bottom says:

Bean told the government to forget the referendum and pass a law to allow gaming. Bean wanted the government to do what they are doing, Betty.

          • Mike Hind says:

This has nothing to do with what I said…

but does prove my point. As does the fact that this is the ONLY response.
