Sunday Liquor Sales Became Law On Dec 24

The Attorney-General and Minister of Legal Affairs Mark Pettingill clarified that the sale of liquor on Sundays became law on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 when it was assented to by Governor George Fergusson.

A statement from the Ministry said, “Current holders of Licence A liquor licences do not need further permission from the Bermuda Liquor Licensing Authority to sell liquor on Sundays.

“The only case in which a Licence A holder would be required to seek further permission from the Liquor Licensing Authority would be if their licence expressly states limitations as to permitted hours.”

    This is music to my ears and the ears of my fellow BBIRYC members. Now when we go yachting on a Sunday, we can stock up on champagne and beer for the day’s yachting activies.

    Commodore JB, I agree with your comments. I would like to add that the members of BBIRYC are also looking forward to being able to dock there yachts on the waterside of a casino and spend part of the yachting day helping the economy by playing some of the casino games.

    I’m so glad you’ve tackled this pressing issue. Of all the issues to fix……… Booze could be bought on a Sunday already. What a joke. Guess this will be in the next speech of accomplishments.

    This is good news for small guesthouses and tourist apartment rentals. Tourists arriving on Saturday night previously could not buy beer or wine to drink around the pool or at the beach. This has improved our tourist product.

    This is the best news since a return to twice a week garbage pick up. I can now purchase a couple cases of Amsterdam Lager for myself and some port for my honey and be out on the jet ski every Sunday this summer. Good times!

    This is a great move. Often I’m so drunk Set-dee that I forget to stop at Shelley Bay to get my Sunday burrs, I just drive by wiffout thinkin.

    Then Sundays I gotta argue wiff de guys at St East End Mini to let me have a few brewws for my drive up de Country.

    Now I can get my burrs Sunday an pudd’em straight in my S-U-WEE!

    What they need to work on now is allowing people to purchase alcohol in the grocery stores until 10pm instead of 9pm!
