Peddling an addictive, harmful drug we import to alcoholics for profit is a “key industry”. No one concerned about “the children” whose brains aren’t fully formed until 25 allowed to drink at 18? Clearly the booze lobby has clout, they got drunk driving checkpoints eliminated now 50% cut in license fees. I already pay more for a car license than a members club pays to sell booze for a year. What’s next duty exemption on liquor? Bermuda maintains its No1 position as Hypocrite Capital of the World.

The PLP moved the liquor license authority out from the purview of the judicial branch of govt and sadly placed it under the direct thumb of the Minister. Meaning the chairman of the licensing authority will do as the Minister says “or else”. The liquor licensing authority was originally placed under the judicial branch of govt for a VERY good reason…to ensure the law is actually followed, and that decisions are made with political interference (politics poisons everything). Now cabinet has taken it over…so this means the tail is now wagging the dog…that is to say businesses that sell alcohol can easily push around the licensing authority if they are in good standing with the Minister. And if they don’t like what the liquor licensing authority is saying, they can just pick up the phone and shout at the Minister!

Renewals for Liquor license had to be submitted by March 14th meaning everyone has already paid up for the year. Does this mean you will be refunding 50% of their money back?
