Bermuda College Opens Nursing Simulation Lab
The Nursing Office at Bermuda College officially opened its state-of-the-art simulation lab in the Technical Centre on the Stonington campus today [Feb 3].
The brand new lab, a first for the College and Bermuda, contains both a viewing classroom and a contemporary, clinical testbed, featuring mannequins for clinical simulation.
The mannequins can be programmed to speak, exhibit various symptoms, such as crying out in pain, giving birth, and can respond to various health care interventions to provide ‘real life’ training for those in the College’s Nursing Education Programme and in general health care on the island.
Minister of Education and Economic Development Dr. Grant Gibbons; Junior Minister Leah Scott; Minister of Health Trevor Moniz; and other local dignitaries from the Bermuda Hospitals Board, the Bermuda Fire Service, the Bermuda Nursing Council and the Bermuda College Board of Governors, were in attendance.
In her opening remarks, Nursing Coordinator, Kathy Ann Swan noted the Simulation Lab represented Phase I of the Nursing Education programme at Bermuda College for students pursuing their associate degree.
She said, “Simulation not only promotes competence but team work and confidence 0and makes it easier for students to learn.”
Specific areas covered during this phase include paediatrics, acute care, maternity, psychiatric treatment, medicine and surgical nursing.
The lab was developed in conjunction with the Bermuda Hospitals Board, Bermuda Fire & Rescue and the Department of Corrections.

Wonderful.
About 40 years too late but better late than never.
Dr. Grenne you always look fab! love you x.
Finally they are going back to providing practical, in conjunction with theoretical, nurses training (as was done when hospitals provided nurses training programs). The simulator is a good step forward.
I am so pleased to see the SimLab in action. Congratulations on the grand opening. I hope to return someday and train with you again.
