Blue Flag Ambassador Certification Programme
The Bermuda Tourism Authority today released the dates of the next course in the Blue Flag Ambassador Certification training programme.
The two and a half week programme focuses on the importance of customer service in the hospitality industry as well as the historical and economic development of Bermuda.
Bermuda cultural customs, flora and fauna, and places of interest are also covered. Emphasis will also be placed on elements of the National Tourism Plan, including Total Quality Management and the new tourism hubs.
This course is aimed at those in the hospitality industry, particularly those who provide tours and informational services to visitors. Such persons include taxi drivers, concierge personnel and tour guides, among others. The course will run on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from February 18 until March 4.
The course is free to participants and will be held at the Bermuda College. Participants can register online at www.profilesofbermuda.bm or by calling Profiles of Bermuda on 292-6997.

Follow up on this one Bernews. It is well known that taxi drivers already know everything. If in doubt, ask any taxi driver. He will quickly confirm it even though some don’t know that in our house numbering system odd numbers are on the left & even on the right. A listen to talk radio anyday will also display that wealth of knowledge that taxi drivers have.
Some years ago an event was put on showcasing watersport activitys available to visitors. It was free. Taxi drivers were canvassed to attend since transport to & from such activities gave business to them as well.
First response that came from many was “What are you paying me to attend?”. The answer, nothing, it is for your benefit as well.
Less than a half dozen taxi drivers showed up. It was, however, well attended by hotel concierge & front desk staff who understand that every service in Bermuda is part of the Bermuda package & all should be promoting each other.
Good luck with the course BTA. Maybe you can get to a point where only those qualified with the flag can give the lucrative tours.
Now that would be the right way to go about allowing taxi drivers charge tourist for Island tours. Also, have them display their permits i.e. the “Blue Flag” yes, it’s far too often tourist are “given a 6 for a nine”.
Do the mini bus drivers take this as well
