Burt To Question Premier Cannonier On Landow

March 7, 2014

[Updating] On Friday [Mar 7] in the House of Assembly, Shadow Minister of Finance David Burt will be posing two questions to Premier Craig Cannonier about his contacts with Nathan Landow.

The Opposition have previously questioned the Premier about his relationship with Mr. Landow, a Maryland real estate developer with a net worth reported to exceed the $100 million mark.

Once described as a “quintessential Washington mover and shaker,” various U.S. news reports tie Mr. Landow to elite politicians including former U.S. President Bill Clinton and former Vice President Al Gore.

After news of “Jetgate” broke last summer, the Premier delivered a personal explanation where he said he was contacted by a “wealthy individual from Maryland who stated that he had an investment group that wanted to meet with the new Government of Bermuda to discuss the current economic conditions in Bermuda.”

“This gentleman stated that he had extensive experience in the gaming industry and wanted to share with the Government his views regarding gaming’s potential to help revitalize our tourism industry and generate jobs for Bermudians,” said the Premier.

Question #1 to be posed to the Premier:

Will the Honourable Premier please inform this Honourable House if he and any of the Principals of Landow & CO. Builders [Bethesda, MD] have met, spoken via telephone, or corresponded via email, since his Personal Explanation given to this Honourable House on May 31, 2013.

Question #2 to be posed to the Premier:

Will the Honourable Premier please confirm to this Honourable House if the “Exchange of Information” trip to Washington DC, detailed in his Personal Explanation of May 31, 2013, was the first time the Honourable Premier had met any of the Principals of Landow & CO. Builders [Bethesda, MD].

In a post on social media, Mr. Burt listed the questions and said, “Despite the fact that the Premier has tried to silence me with with his legal action, I will continue to do my job in pressing for the truth.

“Although the Premier can avoid questions from the media, he must answer questions that have been put down in Parliament and tomorrow morning the Premier is due to answer the following questions in Parliament.

“I am looking forward to getting the answers that the people of this country deserve tomorrow,” added Mr. Burt.

A recent attempt to bring up “Jetgate” in the House of Assembly resulted in a back and forth exchange between Attorney-General Mark Pettingill and Shadow Attorney-General Kim Wilson, who had differing views on whether it was legally prudent to discuss the matter.

Update Mar 7, 10.14am: Although he did not specifically mention these questions, the Speaker of the House Randy Horton told MPs they are not to publish Parliamentary Questions prior to they are asked in the House.

Update Mar 7, 10.53am:  The question has not been answered yet, as the matter of sub judice has arisen again. Attorney-General Mark Pettingill and Shadow Attorney-General Kim Wilson both put forward their points, and the matter has been under discussion for over 30 minutes now.

  1. Disturbing says:

    Get em Burt!

    • BETTTY TRUMP says:

Brilliant Young Intelligent MP BURT… Great Questions. These Questions are key to TRANSPARENCY and ACCOUNTABILITY.

The Premier should not have a problem addressing these questions, after all the UBPOba promised us that they will do politics differently and be Transparent.

These questions are valid, and important to ensure that “integrity of the government” is not called into questions. The Jetgate 4, may have possibility damaged the opportunity for big business deal for Bermuda’s economy to be conducted in an honest open, and free from corruption transaction. This is about a possible development for Bermuda, which may have been put at risk by the actions of the Premier and the JETGATE 4.

No other way to see it, and this is why these Questions are key. I only hope the UBPoba do not fall into their normal way of “AVOIDING KEY QUESTIONS SYDROME”.

Contrary to popular belief by some, The UBPoba falling on their swords, will be due to their own undoings. This will not be due to anything that the PLP, Unions, Working people or others do. UBPoba are doing a great job all by themselves.

I look forward to listening, but I doubt if the Premier will response with anything that looks like “TRUTH”.

      • nuffin but the truth says:

        “Brilliant Young Intelligent….”

        Overstatement of the year!

        • Mazumbo says:

Got anyone in the O.B.A that can outclass him? Ah never mind waste of time.

          • Srsly? says:

Some of the classiest people I know are the slimiest

          • haha says:

Half the people in the OBA are smarter, more intelligent, etc etc than Burt. Who you kiddin ya racist dummy… Where did Burt go to school again lmfao…

            • Mazumbo says:

And one of them definitely is not the Honorable Premier, and what school he went to got to do with it, being born in a garage don’t make you a mechanic.
              LMFAO

              • Concerned says:

from St David’s got more b@lls than most of them in the house where St David’s constituents fall short on education they have majored in common sense Don’t think they are as unintelligent as most of you smart a**es think

          • nuffin but the truth says:

you wouldn’t like the answer, that’s WHY you changed your mind and added…Ah never mind waste of time

            MWAHhhaaaaaaa!!!!

          • Actually... says:

@Mazumbo, I met both candidates during the election and the OBA guy Nick Kempe impressed me more. He was down to earth and kept his promise not to disappear after the election. Mr. Kempe didn’t win and yet I have seen him 3 times in the last year. I have not seen MP Burt since the election except on TV.

      • Argosy says:

Betty. Would you consider these “Plantation” questions? Ha Ha…..don’t bother to reply to me, this is a rhetorical question,,

      • Speak Truth says:

Thanks Bettty for your brilliant brilliant analysis of this matter. Yes I too am very impressed with the outstanding talent amd intelligence of MP Burt.

        Well done MP Burt

    • Raymond Ray says:

Unless Mr. Burt or someone else in the Progressive Labour Party have evidence,(real hard core evidence) proving otherwise then that which has been stated by Premier Craig Cannonier and others is binding in any Halls of Justice.
My advice to you Mr. Burt,(or others) prove it or shut up before you find yourself being sued for deformation of character!(I would imagine the only way around being sued is because the questions are being asked in the “Honourable House”

  2. Terry says:

Well if anyone has any sense they will be formulating their answers now.
I mean jingus….this gives a new meaning to putting your laundry on the street.

Next week he will ask about MPG that Gov. vehicles get.

    I need a rum.

    • BETTTY TRUMP says:

If the Jetgate 4 want to be honest brokers, they should not have to spin or twist an answer, it should be natural to just speak the truth. I guess if they are not hiding anything…after all Crockwell has already thrown the Premier under the bus…its now about saving their own butts, one by one…and guess who may be thrown out first….Premier…you got it !!! too bad the Premier is blindtoit.

      • Mike Hind says:

What if they’re asked plantation questions?
Are they allowed to remain silent then?

        • Mazumbo says:

          RACIST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

          • Mike Hind says:

            Nope. Not even close.

I was quoting a former Premier, citing precendent.

I made no comment about race, nor did I imply, in any way, that one race is inferior in ANY way to another.

            That’s what YOU do. That’s why you’re a racist.

If I HAD done that… you know, behaved like you… I’d agree. That would have been racist.

However, as usual, this is just yet another pathetic, cowardly lie from you.

Do better. Live up to your name.

            • nuffin but the truth says:

and that reply to you Mazumbo was Check-mate in One Move!
I love it when people fall into a trap of their own making!

      • Trumps says:

Betty I agree, now can you please talk to your friends in the former government and ask them where the peoples money disappeared?

        • Speak Truth says:

Looks like your also a Big fan of Bettty……you have taken on her name. Trump wow you guys love her name avgreat deal it seems as so many use it……spreading the love.

          BETTTY KEEP TALKING

          • BURTY TRUMP says:

            Alcoholgate – caught
            Speechgate – caught

What haven’t you been caught with?

        • shutthemdown says:

One thing we know for sure if any money dissapeared the whites in Bermuda would have for sure found out about it and it would have been in the royal gazzette even until this day.

So as much as you racist want to say money dissapeared you have been unable to prove it.

Just deal with the facts at hand, your ubp/oba are frauds and they do something every week that proves this point. It slaps you in the face and it hurts.

      • Dark Side of the Moon says:

You have got to be joking Betty. Your Government never answered questions about finances in Bermuda for the entire time they were the Government. Why should the OBA? This is all so stupid and these people need to get on with running our country. There are many people out of work but has the PLP come with any suggestions to rectify this? All they say is START YOUR OWN BUSINESS, with no advise to anyone on how to do that. Simply because they just don’t know. The way I see it is that Mr. Cannonier, my Premier, may have given a ride to this guy, but it was all to do with business and negotiating more business for Bermuda. But, you Betty, would not understand that because you can’t see the future, just like your party.

    • DUHH says:

If you are dealing with honesty and integrity, you don’t have (formulate your answers!) This government has neither! Try a joint, rum will just get you worked up and more upset!

    • ClearView says:

This definitely sounds like the answers to the questions are already know by MP Burt. He wants the Premier to tell the people know from his own mouth in a place he’s not able to duck the question, and if he was to not tell the truth, expose him with the truth.
MP Burt is much smarter than most of you give him credit for.

  3. Enough says:

Great to see the opposition focusing on the problems that Bermuda faces rather than continuing to try to undermine individuals……… Really have your eye on the ball here.

This opposition just keeps on getting better and better each passing day. ‘Your job’ as you put it, is to focus on the issues affecting Bermuda and not to continue to try and sling mud at individuals. Everyone on this island knows if we went down that route that the OBA would have a field day with the majority of the PLP. It’s becoming quite clear now that you are completely inept at your job and personal attacks are the only thing you can accomplish. Must be great to have so much time on your hands to continue on with this tripe.

Everyone knows where you are going with this Burt. Give it a rest and get back to doing something productive.

  4. Liars/Truth says:

l don’t see why there is a problem with our main business development and Frontman going over sea’s to drum up business.

    • watching says:

Really? you don’t see how integrity can be called into question by accepting free gifts by a potential investor?

Let me help you – delete Cannonier, Crockwell, and Pettingill from the story and insert Brown, Burgess and Horton (circa 2008).

Do you still not have a problem?

      • inna says:

The PLP werent concerned with potential investors mate, all they were good at was spending money!

      • Mazumbo says:

@watching, now you’ve put it that perspective you may have a point. But remember the words Transparency, Integrity, Accountability, Honesty, Openness, etc, etc, Oh I forgot that was only for P.L.P!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
        LMFAO

        • Mike Hind says:

Did you complain when the PLP promised all those things and didn’t do them?

Or is it just yet another “it’s ok when we do it”?

          • Mazumbo says:

Sorry Charlie, for someone who says he don’t have no party bias is showing some signs and if you endorse the mess that O.B.A/ubp are doing then its a conformation.
            P.S
P.L.P are not on trial at this present moment they were already judged for their mess, another smoke screen tactic.

            • Ringmaster says:

              Who is Charlie?

            • Mike Hind says:

So… you’re refusing to answer the question?

That’s what I figured. Can’t be honest for even a second.

For the record, I’ve never endorsed the OBA nor “the mess that they’re doing”. That’s yet another thing you’ve made up in a pathetic attempt to deflect, as is your lie about me saying I “don’t have no party bias”.
I’ve been very clear that I am not a supporter of either party and, based on their record of mismanagement, hateful rhetoric and poor job running our country, I have a bias – as they are now, of course. I have voted for them in the past – against the PLP. I don’t think they are the right people to run the country, at all.
This does NOT equate to support of the OBA. Not in the slightest. No matter how often you try to paint me as an OBA supporter, no matter how often you lie, no matter how often you claim that, because of the colour of my skin, I am an OBA supporter… no matter how often you try to push this lie, it won’t make it true.
              At all.

I asked a simple question about your post, in an attempt to find out whether you were against people not showing “Transparency, Integrity, Accountability, Honesty, Openness, etc, etc,” in general, or whether it’s only when the OBA does it that it’s bad.

Your evasion answers the question pretty well.

              • Just saying! says:

You seem very angry mike. I really amuses me when I read your posts. I guess it is just passion but is really makes me smile because you seem to tie yourself up into a knot with bad logic and poor arguments!

                • Mike Hind says:

Not angry at all. Nor are my arguments poor nor logic bad.
You know how I know? Because if they were, folks like you would debunk them and not resort to weak ad hominems like this post. You ignored any and every point in my post, only to falsely claim that I seem angry… A claim with no basis in reality or truth.

When you talk about the things I actually say, then, maybe, you can be taken seriously. Until then and as long as you continue to resort to these sorts of pathetic attempts to denounce me or paint me in a negative light, all the while hiding like a coward behind the hood of a fake name, you can be dismissed.

        • Trumps says:

Holy crap Mazumbo. Did you reallyjust say this!Transparency, Integrity, Accountability, Honesty, Openness, etc, etc, Oh I forgot that was only for P.L.P!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL

Really, the PLP was honest about T-Street, Berkeley / ProActive, TCD, Bermuda Emissions, Bermuda Cement Co, the Uigars, the Fast Ferry Contracts, Dame Lois Building, Whites Island, Coco Reef and to many more to bring up. Where is the missing 800million!

The last time someone asked questions to the PLP heads they (the AG) were axed.

          • Speak Truth says:

Yes PLP was not afraid of standing on the floor of the HOA or media to answer Questions. The OBA seem to run and hide under a rock when faced with Questions.

So NO TRANSPARENCY BY THE OBA AS PROMISED.

LOOKS LIKE YOU LOVE BETTTY SO MUCH THAT YOU WANTED THE SAME LAST NAME..LOL.

            • Mike Hind says:

Where the heck were YOU the past 15 years?

‘Cuz what you just said? Completely untrue. Like, ridiculously so…

        • Dark Side of the Moon says:

The PLP don’t even know what that means Mazumbo….

      • Just Wondering says:

        Sorry what free gifts?

        • Coffee says:

An all expense paid round trip to Washington D.C for four is one hellofva gift if you ask me ! However it’s turning out to be business as usual for the three wise man and the golfing ghost rider .

          • Just Wondering says:

That then is A gift (single) not gifts (multiple) unless Watching or you have proof to the otherwise. It is not very ethical but far from illegal, now if Principals of Landow & CO. Builders [Bethesda, MD] apply to build hotel/casino and the the three MPs do not remove themselves from the process then I will take issue but maybe that is what Mr. Burt should really be asking. Is Principals of Landow & CO. Builders [Bethesda, MD] or any offsets going to be applying to build here?

      • Argosy says:

Big difference – they were not visiting the Playboy Mansion, were they??? What are you watching – eyes wide closed?

    • Skeptic says:

Agreed – the real questions should be 1) Why did you NOT get the new business? and 2) What can we do to help win the business next time an opportunity comes up?

      • Terry says:

        1).
Because the PLP f,987r it all up.
2). The hole is so deep they stopped digging and are using a ladder to get out.

    • DUHH says:

Trolls never see fault in anything or anyone they support!

      • Troll is a troll says:

Don’t you think that you exemplify the exact same behaviour as in your post?

If not, then why is your unwavering support so noble why others are simply trolls?

  5. dinosaurmedia says:

    Waiting on you Mike…

  6. swing voter says:

Yawn! I can see another mud slinging episode coming tomorrow. why do I have 2 pay you guys for asking stupid questions that lead to counter-productive debate which do not serve the constituents. This behavior has become personal. yup very transparent Burt.

    • Mazumbo says:

It would’ve been valid and productive questions if it was Dr. Brown and P.L.P.
The chickens have come home to roost.
      LMFAO

    • James Rego says:

Very similar to Max Burgess and John Swan arguing about hamburgers for 2 years(?) whilst the people’s business fell by the wayside. Without them the previous nightmare may never have happened. We have these two gentlemen to thank for what we have now.

  7. BlueFamiliar says:

There has to be something I’m missing, because I just can’t seem to care about this issue, presuming it can even be called an issue.

Why should we care if he’s talked to these people before or since they talked on the trip?

If you want to ask questions the answers of which would interest me, ask if they’ve gone into any business deals together since the OBAs taking office or if any personal or Governmental monies have been given to them.

Otherwise, seriously, there are more important things to focus on. Like unemployment, the homeless, costs of necessities, the economy in general, support for local business, etc.

    • Mazumbo says:

Can we use the word Unethical yet, because Transparency, Openness, Accountability, Honest all got used up under P.L.P.

      • Mike Hind says:

        HAAAHAHAHAAAA!

Someone’s rewriting history as we speak.

        WOW…

Seriously… are you insane or just SO clouded in your brain by your blind loyalty to your party and your hatred of white people that you truly believe the nonsense that you write?

      • BlueFamiliar says:

I’ve heard unethical used in this instance, and I don’t understand that either.

I do have to agree about the over use of transparency, openness, accountability and honesty. We sure used those so much when we were frustrated about with the PLP for having none of those things. Still don’t from what I can tell, which is sad. They could be a great opposition if they tried.

  8. Steve Davis says:

The PLP dont want a new hotel to be built down St. Georges. It will be the OBA succeeding where they have failed and we cannot have that!! At all costs we cannot have that!

    • Mike Hind says:

      Exactly.

Not worried that the Government will fail and make Bermuda worse, they’re worried that they’ll succeed and make Bermuda better, meaning, based on their track record, they won’t get elected in the next election… Years from now.

    • PANGAEA says:

St Georges is a destination with speed bumps not a location with speed bumps.

  9. raptor says:

“I am looking forward to getting the answers that the people of this country deserve tomorrow,” added Mr. Burt.

We may deserve them, but we really couldn’t care less about them.

    • Mazumbo says:

We would’ve cared if it was Dr. Brown.
      Selective amnesia.

      • Fidel/Lenin says:

And the great ones answer to so many dogged questions, this to shall pass, as all things do when enough time passes, Get a grip plp and “BLIND FOLLOWERS”

        • Mazumbo says:

And dealing with the matter at hand , even though its embarrassing to face O.B.A/ubp diehards will refuse to accept that their leaders got caught in an uncompromised position.

      • Trumps says:

What answers did DR Brown EVER answer.

      • Dark Side of the Moon says:

He never answered questions to my satisfaction. EVER!!!

  10. godson says:

An old lady told me during the election that “this is the worst election” she had ever seen…The nasty stone-throwing or mudslinging, as someone noted earlier…We had more independant candidates than ever before…More people had decided to stay home and not vote, than ever before… Fast forward some 14 months later and we still have the infant mentallity of both parties still dominant…. We have a political rookie as premier, and a rookie as an opposition leader… The more mature politicians (both parties) have taken a back seat and it is destroying our country… We need experienced, seasoned politicians to step up to the plate(leadership roles) help these rookies(both parties) to understand what the peoples business is all about..We’ve had Good Politicians (e.g. Alex Scott, Louise Jackson, Freddie Wade) who have worked hard to set the standard of politics in Bda… These lot today need to follow their example and humble themselves, because this petty stuff is hurting our confidence in our political future, that goes for both parties…-peace

    • Just Wondering says:

Damned if you do and damned if you don’t situation with Bermuda politics.

  11. Lone Wolf says:

Burt’s a joke. Bean’s a joke too. PLP, when you get rid of these two characters, I might support you again. But I do not trust either of them as far as I could throw them.

    • Speak Truth says:

The biggest joke is looking right at you but your refusing to accept it as it is tooo painful…..the JETGATE 4 NOW THATS THE JOKE.

      • tfm says:

Can you give me three reason why you support the PLP afgter the 14 years of turmoil and destruction financially adn socially? Give me 3, that are not basedn on RACE. Im sorry but after all of the things that the PLP have done to Bermudians and Bermuda I just really don’t give two effs about no Jetgate. Not the smartest move I aagree, but in the big sceam of things – after all we have been through the last 14 years WHO CARES. Now pull out some facts for people to form opinions on instead of these high school girl like B!%$h fights.

  12. Navin Johnson says:

This will just force the OBA to step up the corruption investigations….get the popcorn ready

  13. Take it Easy! says:

Its seems to me that Mr. Burt and his PLP are trying 2 make it sound like there is some corruption going on! What the PLP talk about corruption?! YOU (PLP) are NOT the BDA Government anymore! U know full well they can (and will) pull a rabbit out of the hat! I see u keep playing with FIRE and i can almost guarantee u that ya gonna get burned! And your beloved PLP are gonna have some HEAVY questions 2 answer 2! A couple of months ago Mr. AG said in the paper there some discrepancies, and again today about the docks! So go a head! I pay attention i can tell u that!

    • no more democracy says:

You sound like your Premier, I got a tape, I got you on tape. Well the Premier’s weapon turned out to be a wet noodle.

  14. Bermuda Boy says:

Mazumbo, I believe you are the doctor!!!! Only you/him think like that all the time.

    • Mazumbo says:

Kinda hurts when de thing you criticized is hitting home, glass house-throwing stones= egg in your face.
      LMFAO

      • Mike Hind says:

You’d know better than anyone, it happens so often to you…

    • Unbelievable says:

Mazumbo is not a doctor or even THAT doctor.

Some of us know exactly who he is. How he finds the time to spend his entire day on Facebook and Bernews is astonishing.

I mean…..how many “kilowatts” can this fella burn up in one day without even doing any work???

    • Anon says:

I looked up the definition of Mazambo and it means HATE in every language except English. In English it mean IGNORANT

      • nuffin but the truth says:

        and You spelt it WRONGLY!

the name used is Mazumbo ..NOT as you spelt it..Mazambo

if you are going to comment, get it RIGHT!

        • Mike Hind says:

The first sentence should start with an ellipsis, as you are indicating that you’re continuing their thought.
The Y in “You” should not be capitalized.
Re: the word in caps, “incorrectly” would have been better, as there is a moral connotation to the word “wrongly”, as in “wrongly accused”, though it’s not wrong, in and of itself.

You need a capital T on “The” in the second line.
Ellipses are three dots and a space, not a space and two dots or two dots with no space at all.
The first ellipsis should be a comma, the second should be a colon or a dash.
“Mazambo” would be better served in quotation marks.

You need a capital I in “If” on the third line.
You’re missing a space after the comma.

If you’re going to correct someone, make sure you, yourself, have “got it RIGHT!”

          • shutthemdown says:

just plain stupid you are mike hind

            • Mike Hind says:

              *sigh*

              And you’re pathetic.

Grow up, have some courage and stop hiding like a coward.

          • shutthemdown says:

mike hind you are just plain stupid

      • Mike Hind says:

        As for you…

        Mazumbo was a great man.

The coward on here that has hijacked the name is not.

Let’s not denigrate one for the actions of the other.

  15. Coffee says:

Now Mr. Burt , if the premier starts to preach and invokes the name of The Lord , or says things like ” you know me “, then you know for sure that , he’s told a lie , about to lie , thinking about a lie or stringing many lies together. Anyway it goes , you have to be prepared to chase him all the way to hell before he even considers telling you the truth . I’m warning you in advance !

    • Just Wondering says:

Sort of like those dang plantation questions hmmm

    • Mike Hind says:

I love how these guys only NOW have a problem with a Premier lying… if he is. Of course, they show not a lick of evidence.
But remind them that a former Premier on their side lied to the House and to the people of Bermuda? Then it’s “Why do you keep bringing that up?”

      Insanity.

  16. Terry says:

    What would Victor Newman do.

    • lucky 7 says:

Awsome!! I ask that question all the time! Lol

  17. Suzie Quattro says:

So Mr Premier, when you said you were meeting with people who might be interested in investing in Bermuda, did you meet with a business man who might be interested in investing in Bermuda?

    Yeah, really clever question.

    • Jim Jones says:

Did you speak to said business man before or after you met with him?

      I bleddy well hope so.

  18. Unbelievable says:

Someone tell me if this is a big deal because these are pretty simple questions.

What if The Premier’s answers are yes or no to both? Does he need to give a detailed explanation?

  19. nuffin but the truth says:

so what if there is (or was) a person interesting in investing in Bermuda,
If there is and it provides jobs for bermudians.who gives a $***!

There are a few 1000 people in Bermuda that need work, but the failed and defunct plp and biu really don’t care about these people and that is just one of many reasons the plp will never get the Government of Bermuda again, they have failed in all their promises to the people of Bermuda except friends and family.

  20. P****d Off says:

It really is time for the CLOWNS that are running the country ON BOTH SIDES OF THE FENCE!!!!!!!!!!! started to pay attention to the people that put you there, WE ARE TIRED OF THE S***. Get on with the COUNTRIES and your voters business. I will probably NOT vote again for either party unless there are DRASTIC changes all around.

  21. Ringmaster says:

Such clever and far reaching questions it must have taken a 5 year old to come up with them. Just because they are raised in the House doesn’t mean they will be answered at the time, or at all based on history. This is like watching pre-schoolers at play. Funny if it wasn’t so sad considering it is the survival of Bermuda at stake. To all MPs and Union leaders, grow up and behave ethically and properly for the sake of Bermuda.

  22. Edmund Spenser says:

Based on how the questions are asked, I can answer them both now.

    1. Yes, this is an easy one. Of course they have used any number of media to communicate. Note that the question is ridiculously open ended, doesn’t ask if they have used these methods to communicate with each other, just if they used these methods to communicate.

    2. Yes, had to at least meet using some form of communication at the bare minimum to set-up the logistics of the flight and flight times.

    Next…

  23. Sisu says:

Can somebody please tell me what the big deal about ‘jetgate’ really is?

The facts as I understand them are: (i) a potential investor wanted to discuss a number of investment opportunities in Bermuda, including that of hotel development and gaming; (ii) due to scheduling conflicts, the group couldn’t make it to Bermuda and so decided to offer to fly the Premier, Shawn Crockwell, and Mark Pettingill to see them in Washington D.C.

Ok. So where is the scandal? Should we (as taxpayers) have paid for this trip? A trip that we didn’t initiate. And one that was simply to discuss investment opportunities for this group of investors? It was a fact-finding meeting for them…

Oh, but maybe it can be seen as potentially bribing our government officials.? Nope.

The U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act allows companies to provide reasonable and bona fide travel and lodging expenses to a foreign official, and it is an affirmative defense where expenses are directly related to the promotion, demonstration, or explanation of a company’s products or services, or are related to a company’s execution or performance of a contract with a foreign government or agency.

So tell me where the scandal is. Please. Anybody.

well …to me, it seems as though these two rabble rousers are jealous of certain people who may have millionaire friends that they actually speak with, obviously both of these gentlemen don’t have any multi-millionaire friends which they converse with …otherwise, shouldn’t they inform us of the content of their conversations..??

About 2 years ago ,maybe more…someone said that the economy was bouncing back, and blah, blah, blah…i stated right here that Bermuda was on a downward spiral and that we hadn’t struck rock bottom yet with more unemployment and the toils it brings, yet to come…nothing bounces UP until it hits the BOTTOM.

  27. Coffee says:

I’m sure that by now Cannonier knows that nothing in this life is free . Burt will make him pay up or give up .

  28. mountain out of a molehill says:

So the Premier met with ONE investor I repeat ONE investor!!! and Burt is all bent out of shape for this?????????
The Premier should be networking with millionaire and billionaire investors on a daily basis. I thought we were having an economic crisis?

ONE INVESTOR! are you serious Burt?
Anyone ever see the famous Allen Iverson interview when he says PRACTICE about a hundred times in the interview because he thought it was so ridiculous that everyone made a big deal of him missing a practice game. (It is on youtube search for it)
Thats how we should be looking at this. ONE INVESTOR????
Please stop wasting our Premier’s time with this and let him get on with the business of saving Bermuda.

    • shutthemdown says:

then why does he lie about the details? I mean just one investor.

  29. Starting Point says:

LOL I would answer YES and YES and then move on to the next agenda item. Burt needs to learn how to ask a question that could actually illicit a response, but now we know how the PLP masterminds could draft a drug amendment that was one sheet of paper and said, ‘umm umm, de weed is a plant, it should be legal’

  30. In the nick of time... says:

Same old tired commentors on here spewing the same old crap…if you cared so much for “your” island really, you’d throw your hats in the ring and do something to make a real difference…internet acedemics I swear…the worst of the cowards.

Anyway, it is a shrewd move on Burts part however…If the premier’s cross examination in court differs any from his answers in Parliament he will have proven himself at worst a Liar. He has the opportunity to tell the Truth Twice or Lie Twice…of course then there is the age old moniker most adopted in these situations that goes a little something like this – “I do not recall” – I’m sure we will be hearing this statement quite often going forward.

BTW I am what you would could call a Classical Libertarian – the NonBermudaAlliance makes me sick and the PilferLiePolitrick make me puke…we would all be better off if we grew up and became the captain of our own ship rather than bending at the knees in response to the machinations of a Government (both parties) subservient to the whims of their corporate and therefore banking overlords.

Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms of government those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny.-Thomas Jefferson

Somebody made a comment on here about Cannonier being a puppet – the HARD TRUTH is that they all are. Every one of then are working on an agenda for someone/some entity don’t you know?

Here is a nice quote from a modern day classical libertarian:

When one gets in bed with government, one must expect the diseases it spreads.

    Ron Paul

  31. watching says:

Well unsurprisingly the Premier refused to answer any questions and excused himself for a potty break. Maybe his stomach started gurgling when he realized that the gig is almost up.

    Man up Craig!

  32. Triangle Drifter says:

Oh great!!! That was at least a half hour of my life that I can never recover. Whay did I listen to those fools on The Hill this morning?

Burt pi$$ed off the Speaker, the lawyers on both sides went at it with their points of order, Randy let Burt have his questions, the Premier pretty much gave no answer except that there is nothing to answer too. Then there were supplimental questions to answers that were not given, more points of order & on & on.

The circus truly is in town.
