KPMG Round The Grounds Race On March 16th
On Sunday March 16, the usually tranquil setting of the Botanical Gardens will once again ring with the sound of small, determined feet running to compete in the annual KPMG Round the Grounds Races.
A spokesperson said, “These races have seen participation increase over recent years from 191 runners in 2011 to over 600 runners last year. This year, we expect the numbers to grow with the addition of a relay race for runners in the older age segment who may wish to represent a school, club, family or simply a group of friends.
“The addition of this relay of four members running approximately 800 meters each, follows on from the popular inclusion of relays in many of the island’s adult races – most notably the May 24 Marathon Derby.
The 2012 KPMG Round the Grounds race:
“Teams may be mixed by gender with the top three receiving a prize donated by MAAC. This relay represents a new opportunity for runners who prefer shorter distances and who will relish the opportunity to run against Carifta standard, individual runners in this category.”
For the last two years, Masterworks has supported this event with craft based activities and refreshments have been available from Flying Chef. In addition, a fun castle and other tasty treats will be on offer to revive young competitors.
The spokesperson continued, “We look forward to watching our rising stars like Daylen Scott, Ashley Irby, Marissa Norville, Stefan Jones and the ever-consistent Tommy Marshall compete alongside outstanding KPMG Bermuda Invitational Mile winners, Jade Johnston and Nick Pilgrim. Organisers encourage our older runners to participate in the 13-18 age group, in which they provide exemplary role models for the younger competitors.”
Marketing Administrator at KPMG, Sue Le’Strange stated, “Our annual Round the Grounds event is one of KPMG’s most popular occasions in the year. It is indeed a wonderful family day with proud, excited parents cheering on their children who run enthusiastically around the course in the beautiful setting of Botanical Gardens.
“We are delighted that Masterworks has now joined us in offering additional activities to all the children. As all participants receive a medal, one can only share in the joy seen on each of their faces. It is truly a day when memories are created.”
