Ralph RichardsonThe Board of Trustees of the Bermuda Hospitals Charitable Trust [BHCT] has announced the appointment of Ralph Richardson [pictured left] as Executive Director, replacing Wendy Augustus.

A spokesperson said, “The Board has the fullest confidence that Mr. Richardson will be an excellent steward of BHCT’s mission as a leader and advocate for healthcare philanthropy.”

Mr. Richardson said of his new position, “In 2002 I was invited for a tour of the KEMH facility and was made aware of the challenges faced by the staff in the deteriorating facility.

“For several years, in my role in the philanthropic community, I was continually apprised of the development, the proposed solutions, the challenges faced by the aging hospital.

“It is extremely exciting so see the project nearing completion and even more so now as I have the opportunity to assist with the final phase of the BHCT’s capital campaign.”

Mr. Richardson will lead the organization in its efforts to successfully complete the ongoing Why it Matters campaign, aimed at raising $40 million in support of the KEMH Redevelopment Project. He has been involved with BHCT since January 2013, serving as an active member of the campaign’s Community Engagement Committee.

Chairman Philip Butterfield added, “We are really pleased to have Ralph onboard. He brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the position from his varied career in both the business and non-profit sector.”

“Mr. Richardson has completed a Leadership in Philanthropy course at Stanford University and served on the boards of many non-profit organizations. Before joining BHCT, Mr. Richardson retired in 2010 from his role as the Executive Director of ACE Foundation-Bermuda. His volunteer service included the Commodore of the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club and board member of several non-profit organizations.

“He is a current board member of the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences, the Argo Foundation Selection Committee and chairman of the Bermuda Water Safety Council.

“Mr. Richardson received his Master of Sciences degree in International Management from the University of Liverpool. He also holds a Bermuda Insurance Diploma and is a certified member of the Chartered Insurance Institute.”
