Photos: 2014 Ag Show Rose Exhibit Winners
The 2014 Agricultural Exhibition wrapped up this past weekend, leaving a long list of compelling exhibits in its wake, including the many beautiful flowers put on display in the show’s Rose Division.
The best of that exhibit has been announced, with winners chosen in 10 individual categories ranging from “Best in Show” to “Best Modern Rose.”

Diana Antonition’s “Prosperity,” a hybrid musk, won the Peter Carpenter Trophy for Best in Show and the Bermuda Rose Society Challenge Bowl for Best Modern Rose. Ms. Antonition also won the Hazel Steel Memorial Trophy for Best Bloom Progression and the Betty Ball Challenge for Most Points in Classes B, C, D, and E.
Prosperity:
“Homere,” a tea rose grown by Peter Holmes, won the Bermuda Rose Society Trophy for Best Old Garden Rose.

Peter Holmes also won the Bill Mercer Award for “Portuguese Rambler,” a Bermuda Mystery rose. Additionally, Mr. Holmes won the Aberfeldy Trophy for Most Points in Modern Roses and the Mary-Jean Mitchell Green Trophy for Highest Points in Roses [Adult].
Portuguese Rambler:
Additional winners included Charlie Law and Evan Davis, who won the Hilda Aiken Memorial Trophy for Most Points Juniors in OGR, and Mingo Cook for Best Bouquet.
Accentuating the exhibit were display roses donated by Mr. Peter Green in memory of his wife Mary-Jean Mitchell Green, who was an avid gardener and winner of numerous awards for her various plants, including her roses. Rose number 1178 was officially named after her.
