UN Convention On Crime Extended To Bermuda

August 25, 2014

Governor George Fergusson and Attorney General Trevor Moniz today [Aug 25] announced that the UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime [UNTOC] has been extended to Bermuda. UNTOC was adopted in 2000 and ratified by the UK in 2006.

A spokesperson said, “It includes a series of measures to combat transnational organized crime such as money laundering, cyber-crime and drug trafficking. These include the creation of domestic criminal offences and new frameworks for mutual legal assistance, law enforcement co-operation and technical assistance.

“Extending this Convention to Bermuda is another step in ensuring that Bermuda stays – and is seen to stay as – a well-regulated financial services centre.”
