Airport Evacuated After Fire Alarm Activation

There was a full evacuation of the terminal building at L.F. Wade International Airport this afternoon [Sept 30] after a fire alarm was activated at 2.27pm.

A spokesperson said, “Construction personnel carrying out work at the L.F. Wade International Airport inadvertently set off the fire alarm at 2:27 pm this afternoon, resulting in a full evacuation of the terminal building.

“At the time of the activation, four flights including United Airlines flight 1419 from Newark, were on the ground, three of which were already in the process of departing.

“Passengers and airport personnel re-entered the building approximately 20 minutes later, following the all clear given by Bermuda Fire and Rescue Services. United’s return flight to Newark departed on-time as there was no delay to passenger processing.”
