Football: Dandy Town Hornets Win Charity Cup
The 2014/15 Bermuda Football Association season kicked off at the BAA Field with the Charity Cup match between the Dandy Town Hornets and the Somerset Trojans, which saw the Hornets claim a 3-0 win.
The Dandy Town Hornets could have taken the lead in the 15th minute, but new signee Clay Darrell rushed his shot when he was in one on one with the Somerset Trojans goalkeeper Karl Brown, but he watched his shot go wide.
The Dandy Town Hornets controlled the tempo of the match with the Somerset Trojans creating a few chances, the games first goal came in the 33rd minute when Jahnazae Swan was put through and he beat an advancing Brown to his left.
Four minutes later it was 2-0, Swan was on the end of a Damon Ming pass and calmly placed the ball into the back of the net. Ming received a pass beating Brown to the ball and he found Swan who doubled the Dandy Town Hornets lead.
Minutes before the break the Heavens opened, thus putting a damper a game that was now starting to flow from end to end.
The second half of the match was played in a constant down pour, with Fabian Frankson able to increase the Dandy Town Hornets lead to 3 – 0 with a goal in the 59th minute.
Neither team managed the beat the opposing goalkeeper for the remainder of the game as the Dandy Town Hornets captain Jah-Quille Stowe collected the trophy from the Bermuda Football Association President Larry Mussenden.
