LeVeck Roberts Charged With Double Murder

September 2, 2014

[Updated] Appearing in Magistrates Court this morning [Sept 2], LeVeck Roberts was charged with the murder of Haile Outerbridge and Ricco Furbert at Belvin’s Variety store last year, as well as the attempted murder of Zico Majors.

Roberts also faced a number of other charges, such as using a firearm, and as the charges can only be heard in the Supreme Court, the defendant did not have to enter a plea. We will have additional details on all the charges later today.

Mr Outerbridge, 34, and Mr Furbert, 25, both sustained fatal wounds after being shot multiple times while inside the Belvins store on Happy Valley Road on January 23 2013.

Christophe Duerr has already been charged with the double murder, appearing in Court back in December 2013.  Both LeVeck Roberts and Gariko Benjamin were also charged at that time, however neither were present in Court.

No formal explanation were given as to their whereabouts, however officials are understood to have suspected that both men were no longer on the island.

Update 12.31pm: The Bermuda Police Service acknowledged the “valuable assistance” provided by international law enforcement partners in assisting with the arrest and extradition of LeVeck Roberts.

The 21 year old, who holds dual U.S. nationality, was extradited on Sunday [Aug 31] after having been arrested in Atlanta earlier this year. Full statement here.
