Police Advise To Be Aware Of Online Scams
The Bermuda Police Service Financial Crime Unit is reminding the public that the need to remain vigilant regarding online scams is ongoing, with misleading emails but one example of the tactics used by criminals to gain access to private information and accounts.
A police spokesperson said, “Once again, the Bermuda Police Service Financial Crime Unit would like to remind members of the public to remain vigilant regarding phishing e-mails and other online scams that attempt to obtain personal information or other sensitive data.
“Examples include misleading emails claiming to be from local banks, asking the recipient to update their security details. It is strongly recommended that any similar unsolicited correspondence be ignored.
“In addition, residents are reminded that personal information regarding banking details, dates of birth, addresses, and phone numbers are valuable and that this information should never be relayed over the internet or phone to unknown persons.
“Members of the public can contact the Financial Crime Unit on 247-1757 or report suspected internet fraud via email to fraud2@bps.bm.”
