Trash Collection Changes Due To Gonzalo

October 15, 2014

Due to impending arrival of Hurricane Gonzalo, regular household waste will be collected in the West-End tomorrow, Thursday [Oct 16], but not collected on Friday in the East-End.

A spokesperson said, “Recycling collection will not occur this week on Thursday or Friday but will be collected next Thursday and Friday, October 23rd and 24th.

“Garbage which has not been collected by the end of Thursday should either be stored in a secure area until the next official collection day or brought to the Tynes Bay Public Drop-Off which will operate with extended hours through Friday October 24th.

“To assist with pre-storm waste disposal the Tynes Bay Public Drop Off will extend their hours on Thursday from 7am to 7pm. On Friday both the Public Drop off and weighbridge will be closed.

“Both the Public Drop off and weighbridge will open on Saturday, weather and road conditions permitting, from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. and on Sunday, October 19th through Friday, October 24, the Public Drop off will open from 7am to 7pm.”

Don’t blame Gonzalo for the change because garbage never gets collected on the scheduled days anyway.

    • Kangoocar says:

Totally agree, “somuchless” mine along with all my neighbors going up Mcgalls Hill, stayed there from last Friday the scheduled day until today???? A good case for privatizion if you ask me????

      • Privatize says:

Absolutely, there has been a giant pile of garbage outside my house because they told everyone on the side streets to bring them to the main roads for collection after Fay. I guess Middle Road is not a main road? Hope they get it today, I’m certainly not going back for it!

  2. Mario says:

Sorry to dispel the myths about privatization but the Recycling Collection is privatized and is FAR WORSE than regular trash collection.
When it was done by government it was more reliable and consistent. At least with regular trash you can call and get information. Such is not the case for recycling.

  3. Raw Onion says:

I would have taken my trash to the dump myself had I know it would not be collected as it should have been. Looks like along with the trees and junk blowing around so will be my trash. I’m highly disappointed in the garbage collection and I hope it’s the first to be privatized….i’d pay a monthly fee if I have to just to ensure my garbage is collected on time every time!!!!

    • Micro says:

Go put it away dumba**. They said already if your trash hasn’t been collected by 5PM take it to the dump (which closed at 7) or take it back in/secure it.
