Fire Extinguished On Middle Road, Southampton
[Updated] The Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service are on scene at a fire on Middle Road in Southampton near Five Star Island this morning [Dec 20], and confirmed the fire was contained to one room and has been extinguished as of 7.00am. Ventilation in progress, and the BFRS said to expect traffic delays in the area.
Update: The BFRS said, “At approximately 6:14 am on Saturday, December 20th, 2014 the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service responded to a report of a 2-story dwelling involved in fire in the vicinity of Five Star Island, Southampton.”
Fire Service spokesperson, Sergeant Russann Francis reports, “the Fire Service responded to the incident with 2 fire appliances staffed with 8 firefighters to find the fire confined to an area on the upper level.”
Sergeant Shannon Caisey of the first arriving vehicle, stated “upon the arrival of the Fire Service, on trying to locate the residence there was faint smoke seen from the chimney.
“Two firefighters dressed in breathing apparatus and equipped with a 1½” hose line made entry into the residence and began to extinguish the fire. Firefighters confirmed that all persons were out of the home prior to entering the premises to extinguish the flames.”
The dwelling sustained moderate heat damage to the upper level and extensive smoke damage throughout. At present the fire is still currently under investigation.
