HSBC: Inoperable Terminals To Be Replaced
Following days of credit card terminal outages which have affected merchants across the island, HSBC Bermuda said that “by close of business tomorrow, all of the known inoperable terminals will have been replaced with new models.”
As Bernews reported last week, the bank confirmed they were experiencing credit card terminal outages which affected merchants island wide.
Since that report, Bernews received two emails from local retailers who were less than happy over this issue, with one person saying “I suspect other members of the retail sector are not happy with this problem occurring at a busy time of the year.”
This afternoon, an HSBC Bermuda spokesperson said, “HSBC sincerely apologises for the inconvenience caused to some of our business customers over the past few days, due to a technology fault that has rendered certain older Point of Sale [POS] models inoperable.
“We have contacted all of our customers with affected terminals and we are working closely with them to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.
“By close of business tomorrow, all of the known inoperable terminals will have been replaced with new models. Any additional terminals which are currently working but may be affected by the same fault in the future will be replaced as soon as possible.
“The vast majority of our customers use other POS models which are not affected by this fault. We are contacting these customers to reassure them that their machines will continue to operate normally.”

Sounds like POS stood for something else over the past few days.
HSBC has become one of the crappiest banks ever. With its service fee and all, I think its time to move on… Clarien Bank is next.
While they have caused enormous stress with their recent policies. This particular problem cant be blamed entirely on them. Its the software and distribution company for said terminals. The fact that the problem affects hsbc machines makes it worse lol. Their services as of late have much to be desired. Mind u if i were in charge of ordering the terminals id at least ask when the software expired smh.
