Premier: Sun Life’s Plan A “Confidence Boost”
Premier Michael Dunkley said he welcomed the news from Sun Life that it intends to expand jobs in Bermuda over the next few years, saying it has shown “incredible foresight”, and is a “confidence boost for Bermuda’s economy and workforce.”
Sun Life Financial International announced plans to “accelerate expansion in its Bermuda operation”, saying that they have plans to hire approximately 30 more people in the next few years.
During a meeting at the Cabinet Office yesterday, the Premier, along with Finance Minister Bob Richards, Education & Economic Development Minister Dr. Grant Gibbons and Home Affairs Minister Michael Fahy met with Andrew Darfoor, senior vice-president and CEO of Sun Life International, Dean Connor, president and CEO of Sun Life Financial and Daniel Fishbein, president of Sun Life Financial US, to discuss the firm’s ambitious workforce plans for the Island.

The Premier said, “Yesterday my Cabinet colleagues and I had the pleasure of meeting with the principal regional representatives of Sun Life, and we were extremely encouraged about their plans to expand jobs in Bermuda.
“Over the past two years, this Government has worked tirelessly to put critical elements in place aimed at turning around our economy and creating an environment that was conducive to growing business.
“In recent months and weeks there have been some very encouraging announcements relating to our economy, workforce and hotel development. So we are pleased that Sun Life has added to the growing list of positive initiatives.
“Their objectives to grow jobs and to invest in and train Bermudians is very welcome news, and we look forward to working with them to ensure their success.”

You are kidding right. The thousands of jobs were lost by the PLP and the OBA are trying to get them back.
Do you think that putting a few hampers in front of a Church for collecting food is worthy of a press conference? Your buddies do….anything for politics.
Where are your sources regarding the thousands of jobs lost in the last 2 years?
According to the most recent labour survey, completed in the first 9 months of the OBA’s term, it indicates that the labor force fell by 621 jobs. And let me remind you that this was in September 2013 before any of their policies have taken hold. Just wait till the numerous large construction projects gets underway as well as teh implementation of the new work permit policies.
When you get a chance can you please provide the source you used to state that thousands of jobs have been lost in the last 2 years?

Can you please provide details on the thousands of jobs lost in the last 2 years. Perhaps some hang-over from the previous government’s attitude toward those who “don’t look like them”?
Seems like you are confused as the jobs went out under the previous Government as well as hundreds of Bermudians who left in an effort to survive…the PLP drove them all out… No reasonable person would deny the OBA has Bermuda back on the right path and I realize that is tough for some to accept …
Those thousands of jobs went under the PLP – cos they didn’t have a clue. They’re kinda quiet now – ain’t got nuthin to say.
More bad news from the OBA – there must be a catch.

What a difference from 2 yrs ago??? Two years ago, under the plp, IB companies were leaving BDA so fast, the airlines had trouble accommodating their departures, and let’s not forget the moving companies, they were extremely busy as well moving their belongings!!! Now under a sensible and welcoming OBA Government, they are returning and expanding!!! The future sure looks a lot brighter under the OBA!!!
