Video: Sun Life To “Accelerate Expansion”

Sun Life Financial International today [Dec 18] announced plans to “accelerate expansion in its Bermuda operation” saying that “plans are in place to hire additional employees in Bermuda.”

“The Bermuda office has been growing its employee numbers since 2012 and by the end of the year, the two-year growth rate will be more than 50 per cent. Plans are in place to hire additional employees in Bermuda to support the overall growth of Sun Life Financial International in 2015,” the company said.

“Dean A. Connor, President and Chief Executive Officer, Sun Life Financial; Daniel R. Fishbein, President, Sun Life Financial U.S.; and Andrew A. Darfoor, Senior Vice-President and Chief Executive Officer, Sun Life Financial International, are visiting the Island this week and will meet with the Premier to discuss the company’s commitment to Bermuda and to growing its business on the Island.

“The senior executives will also discuss with the Premier the launch of a Rotational Leadership Development Programme [RLDP] in Bermuda. The programme, consisting of three one-year rotations, aims to provide recent Bermudian graduates with critical business skills, knowledge of the insurance and financial services industries, and a broad understanding of Sun Life’s products, customers and business strategy.

“Bermudian college seniors and/or graduate students with upcoming graduation dates and high leadership potential are invited to apply. Upon completion of the programme, successful RLDP participants will have the opportunity to apply for permanent roles at the company.”

Update:Video interview with Andrew Darfoor and Daniel Fishbein, who said they are “looking to grow our Bermuda head count from roughly say 30 people, to say roughly 60 people” over a “time frame of 2012 to 2015-2016.

They said they are employees now are approximately 75% of Bermudians, 25% non-Bermudians, and as they grow they “want to maintain that ratio.”

“The visit to Bermuda by our global and U.S. leaders shows the company’s strategic commitment to the Sun Life Financial International business and our accelerating interest in expanding our presence on the Island,” said Mr. Darfoor.

“The growth in the Bermuda office will continue to mirror growth in our global footprint,” added Darfoor.
