Jessica Lewis Finishes Eighth In Australia Event

January 28, 2015

Jessica - PRESS PHOTOParalympian Jessica Lewis began her 2015 competitive year recently in Australia at the Summer Down Under Wheelchair Road Racing Series, with one race in Canberra and another in Sydney, followed by a 10K which is also in Sydney.

Ms. Lewis finished eighth in the Open Women’s Division with a time of 34:52, and 30th overall in the event.

In a blog post published last weekend [Jan 25], Ms. Lewis said, “The second track meet down under took place on the warm up track of the Sydney Olympic Park. Luckily the weather held out for us this time and just started to rain as we were packing up to leave.

“I wasn’t too thrilled with my performance at the second meet, but managed to end the day on a good note with a good 200m race where I almost achieved an A standard for World Championships [the standard is 35 seconds and I did a 35.15].

“We had an early morning wake up for the Oz day 10k road race to complete the Summer Down Under Racing Series. Buses loaded up at 7.00am and we had a 9.00am start time. Just like in Canberra the weather did not want to cooperate and it was drizzling the entire race.

“But I had a great time and it was amazing to be pushing under the bridge and by the Opera House.”
