“As Youth Technical Director, Cal will take the lead on ensuring that North Village offers an environment that creates a positive culture and promotes player development in an atmosphere of sportsmanship and teamwork,” continued Mr Coddington.
“The YTD is also responsible for providing direction and consistency for the overall football experience for players, coaches, and parents that is consistent with the Club’s strategic plan and priorities as established by the Board.”
When asked why he chose to accept the role, Mr. Blankendal said, “The opportunity to transition from the boardroom back into a hands on role in youth football [BFA] excites me. North Village is one of Bermuda’s leading clubs and offers a fantastic opportunity to work in a very progressive environment.
“The club’s enhanced infrastructure offers both on and off field training programs, to enhance and instill academic and athletic development.
“The current coaching staff is very open minded and dedicated. They were eager to encourage me to come on board and that was a key factor in having accepted the job offer.”
When asked about some of the keys goals he is hoping to accomplish, Mr Blankendal said, “We will establish a coaching syllabus and integrate educational programs relating to football, academic learning and life skills. The main objective is to create a consistent model to assess, coach and challenge both the players and coaches during the next 3 years.
“On a personal level, it would be a fantastic accomplishment to see a core documented club style of play across all age groups. In addition to that, I look forward to training a future YTD within North Village, to create a pathway of internal promotion and succession planning for the future.”
Mr. Coddington added, “North Village will continue to be aggressive in its commitment to overall player development. Bringing someone as seasoned as Cal is a direct result of that commitment.
“I am very confident that Cal’s professionalism, experience and love for the game will make him successful in the role of Youth Technical Director. We are thrilled to welcome Cal to the North Village family.”
