Burgess Receives Caribbean League Opportunity
[Updated] The Bermuda Cricket Board [BCB] congratulated Christian Burgess on his selection by ICC Americas to the Caribbean Premier League [CPL] opportunity.
Christian was one of four Bermudian players given an opportunity in December to garner selection at the High Performance camp in Barbados run by ICC High Performance Officer Tom Evans.
Christian will be following a specifically designed training program prior to joining the CPL franchise camp from June 13th to 18th. The franchise to which he has been assigned has not yet been announced.
Tom Evans said, “We were very impressed with Christian in Barbados. His glove-work was really clean and he showed he is adaptable and can bat well in different positions which suits the T20 format. His leadership skills and work rate also impressed and I’m sure he will represent Bermuda and the region well in this opportunity.”
Lloyd Fray, President of the BCB noted, “We are very proud of Christian’s selection to the CPL opportunity. His performances in recent years have continued to improve at senior international level and we hope he will continue to develop.
“Christian has progressed through the BCB academy ranks and has a bright future ahead of him. I fully expect that he will represent himself, the BCB and Bermuda well both on and off the field later this year.”
Update 6.09pm: The PLP congratulated Mr Burgess saying, “The Bermuda Progressive Labour Party joins with Bermudians across the island in celebrating Christian Burgess on his selection by the ICC Americas to the CPL.”
Shadow Sports Minister Michael Weeks said, “This is a great opportunity for Mr. Burgess to display his talents on the world stage and to bring even greater attention to the tremendous talent and potential that exists within our young Bermudians. We expect that Christian Burgess will put in the work necessary to maximize this opportunity and that he will continue to make all of us very proud.”
