[Updated: Police confirm the death of 59 year old Richard Perry of Paget]

Firefighters are presently on scene at a fire in Bostock Hill West in Paget, with multiple personnel on scene as of this writing [12.13am], and the police also in attendance. Details are limited at this time and we will update as able.

Update 12.18am: We continue to receive unofficial reports suggesting that one person was injured, and are seeking confirmation on that now.

Update 12.35am: The Fire Service confirmed that one person was rescued from the residence, and they have been taken to KEMH.

Update 2.21am: The BFRS said, “At approximately 11:15 pm Saturday, January 31st, 2015 the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service responded to a report of ‘smoke and fire’ at a residence at Bostock Hill, Paget.

Fire Service spokesperson, Sergeant Russann Francis said, “The Fire Service responded to the incident with 4 vehicles and 10 personnel.

“Two firefighters dressed in breathing apparatus rescued one person from the residence prior to extinguishing the fire. The fire which was contained to a single room, was extinguished with one 1 ½” hose line; however, there was minor smoke and heat damage throughout the residence.

“The occupant of the residence was taken to hospital. At present the fire is still currently under investigation.”

Update 1.01pm: The police have now confirmed the death of 59 year old Richard Perry of Paget, saying that was rushed to KEMH via ambulance where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police said preliminary inquiries suggest the circumstances are not suspicious; however a full investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 59 year old Richard Perry of Paget and extends condolences to his family and friends.

Around 11:15pm on Saturday, January 31st first responders were dispatched to a reported fire at a Bostock Hill West, Paget residence.

Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service personnel gained entry into the lower apartment and extricated Mr. Perry, who was unresponsive.

The Paget resident was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance but succumbed to his injuries. He was pronounced dead at 11:56pm Saturday.

A Family Liaison Officer has been assigned to assist Mr. Perry’s family at this difficult time.

Preliminary inquiries suggest the circumstances are not suspicious; however a full investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing by the Criminal Investigation Unit, in consultation with the Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service.

It is anticipated that the findings of the completed investigation will be released in due course.
