March 10, 2015

Appearing in Magistrates Court this morning [Mar 10], a 25-year-old man pleaded guilty to stealing $15.90 worth of food from Marketplace’s Church Street store last week, and was given a twelve month Conditional Discharge.

The Prosecutor told Magistrate Archie Warner that the store ‘s CCTV system had recorded the man collecting food from the deli-counter, putting the food down and taking a phone call, and then picking the food up again and leaving the store without paying for it.

Store managers accosted the man in the parking lot, took him to the office, and called police. On arrival the man was arrested and taken into custody.

In Court this morning, the Prosecutor said that the man had offered to pay and he had since paid the $15.90, and  a Marketplace representative present in Court told the Magistrate that the man had returned and made restitution on his own initiative.

The Magistrate then ruled that a Conditional Discharge, good for twelve months, was to be imposed.
