25 Year Old Fined $800 For Cocaine Possession

Appearing in Magistrates Court this morning [Mar 10], a 25-year-old man was fined $800 for possessing 0.12 grams  of cocaine.

Appearing before Magistrate Archie Warner, Joecoy Burrows told the Court that he borrowed some clothing so that he could attend “my boy’s funeral that day. ”

The Court heard that when Mr Burrows was searched by police and the cocaine was found in his pants in July 2014, the pants he claimed to have borrowed had been laundered several times.

The Magistrate fined him $800.

      Lol what..? Checking your friends pants for narcotics before going out in them is called being safe? I wouldn’t say people generally get in trouble or are “unsafe” after not checking pockets haha. Just sad the court wasted so much time processing and arresting this young man regardless or his guilt. $800 isn’t enough to cover court costs. Better resources can be spent stopping its importation and sales rather then guys caught with such minute amounts. On the spot ticket and confiscation for possession of personal amounts of hard drugs is the way to go imo. Deal with the real criminals profiting from this.
