Only 10% Of Businesses Registered To Vote

March 20, 2015

“The legal notice for the voting date of the Corporation of Hamilton Municipal Election was posted earlier this week, but what most businesses don’t realize is that they are probably not eligible to vote,” the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce said today.

“Thus far, approximately 10% of businesses have registered to vote on Thursday, 7th May, 2015. Yet, in the last municipal election, where only residents were eligible to vote, businesses were eager to contribute.

Chamber President, Kristi Grayston, said, “Businesses, both members and non-members, need to understand that unless they have registered their company at the Corporation of Hamilton this year, they are not even eligible to vote. ”

The Chamber of Commerce encourages all Hamilton businesses to send their completed forms to City Hall and for St. George’s businesses to submit their completed forms to the St. George’s Town Hall. Businesses have until next week Wednesday, 25th March, at 5 p.m. to register.

Why is the corp telling the public/businesses at this late stage?

This should have been announced months ago and repeated weekly.

I witness first hand a business owner actually putting up a resistance to register when the lady from voter register appeared at their business. He kept saying you have to go to the board before I proceed. ….oh well he will miss the boat waiting on his board meeting
