Aubrey Pennyman Appointed Registrar General

Aubrey PennymanThe Ministry of Home Affairs announced that Mr. Aubrey Pennyman [pictured] has been appointed as the next Registrar General within the Registry General Department for the Bermuda Government.

Mr. Pennyman will assume responsibility for the overall management and operation of the Registry General Department which includes the planning and development of policy and legislative programs on behalf of the Ministry as well as providing timely information and assistance to both the Minster and Permanent Secretary of Home Affairs.

Mr. Pennyman attended the University of New Mexico where he graduated in 1994 with a Bachelor’s in Communications before going on to achieve his LLB in Law from the University of Kent in 1998. Mr. Pennyman has also obtained a Post Graduate Certificate in Intellectual Property Law from Queen Mary, University of London.

Mr. Pennyman has worked with Government for the past 15 years, starting in 2000 at the Registrar of Companies as a Registration Agent responsible for company registrations and incorporations, then becoming a Trademark Examiner with the Registry General Department with responsibility for the examination and registration of intellectual property applications, and then a Trademark Officer where his duties included the examination of applications, training of staff and supervision of the Intellectual Property Section.

He was subsequently promoted to Assistant Registrar [Intellectual Properties] where he had responsibilities for examining applications and management of the Intellectual Property Section. More recently, Mr. Pennyman has served as the Acting Registrar General.

The Minister of Home Affairs, Senator Michael Fahy said, “We are pleased to have Mr. Pennyman assume the substantive post of Registrar General. He has proven a valuable asset to the Home Affairs team and we look forward to working with him as we move forward”.
